|
|
Article from Sunday Mail today.
Says that cameras have not worked for 5 years, except for a 3 mile section down by Junction 2.
I suppose you can make your own conclusions, and possibly know people who have had a ticket to contradict the article.
For my part, I'll assume they are all working.

Unless a camera has been chopped of at the base base or it's engulfed in flames & burning tyres I'd rather assume it's working, not that I'd ever exceed the speed limit anyway _________________ Galaxy Note 4 / TomTom GO : CamerAlert : CoPilot |

We've covered this topic here many times and come to the same conclusion. I did read recently the reason behind some of them is a legal loophole that stops them being switched on? _________________ DashCam:

Wasn't it something about the shape of the numbers on the speed indicator signs being outside the legal specs? _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

that's what it was. The characters were the wrong shape. But I thought that they had changed the spec so that they now comply. |

Hi
I think the wrong font was used on the M42 variable limit signs and someone successfully defended them selves using this information, but as M8TJT pointed out the regulation was being changed so I think they are legal now.
I think the same equipment is in place on all the Variable limit signs, so no doubt lots of money has been spent. |

I thought it was the colours? The Highway Code specifically states that speed limits are black numbers on a white background with a red circle around the outside. And the national speed limit sign being a white circle with a black diagonal line. The requirements for local councils and highways agency etc state that there are no variations allowed.
The speed limits in variable speed zones (M25, M6, M62) are white text on a black background so technically they are not valid speed limit signs.

It will be a major job to change them all to black on white. Need to keep an eye open for that. _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

I looked at the M25 ones yesterday and being white on black in a red circle are perfectly legible and should be enforced IMO.
Don't understand it, not as if they have a Xmas tree on them to upset anyone ! _________________ DashCam:

Perfectly legible but perfectly illegal. Or at least not following the rules so not enforceable. |

Exactly. And laws work both ways - they're for the authorities to follow and not just the regular folk. |

I still find it a little surprising that they have left it so long and not replaced them.
However if the majority of people obey them when lit and it eases the traffic flow as intended, then I suppose there is no rush.
Wonder how much money they lost in the process though. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |
