I submitted some new SPECS cameras on the A1 recently by using the submission map here and then a week or so later, when they became active, I went back in and amended them to finalise both their positions and the enforced speed limit.
However, when I now go back into the submissions map to view them, as well as the four SPECS camera icons, there are several pale blue squares containing 'cross-hairs' near the camera locations.
Anyone shed any light on what these relate to?
I amended each location by entering the camera ID in the relevant box, auto-filling the data and then amending as required. _________________ TomTom 720

Give us a clue. Location or cam number? The A1 is a long road.
If you are talking about the ones a bit south of Retford. The blue icons are provisional, awaiting verification. If your locations are accurate, I suspect that the current active locations were done on the 'pick the most likely place from a bunch of spread out submissions' principle. |

Sorry...remiss of me!!
There are major roadworks commencing on the A1 near Elkesley in Nottinghamshire, as they begin work to construct a new flyover for the village (Elkesley is the final village on the A1 only served by access off the A1 itself).
Specs cameras have been installed to the north and south of the works with a monitored limit of 40 mph. These are in addition to the fixed GATSO cameras set at 50mph which were installed many years ago to allow the residents to stand a chance of entering and leaving the village without having to cross vehicles travelling at 70mph, as used to be the case. _________________ TomTom 720

Coloured cross-hairs are visible only to you (and pgpsw Verifiers). They are your submissions which have not yet been verified. _________________ Dennis

Ahhh...right. Thank you for that.
What actually constitutes verification?
I was able to report the existence of these new Specs cameras as I work on the farm which borders the A1 at this point and had seen them suddenly appear, so am very confident that their location is now correct.
I also drive the stretch of road monitored two or three times a week, so should be able to keep the database updated should the speed limit change. _________________ TomTom 720

This guide to verification is quite old, but still pretty useful reading...
One revision to it is that Verifiers are no longer anonymous. _________________ Dennis
