My trusty GO720 will now only boot when an SDHC card is used.
I presume this means the internal memory has died.
I therfore ask for opinions as to whether or not I send it for repair at a quoted cost of £30 or just carry on using it with the SDHC Card.
I rule out replacing it with another TomTom as the latest versions do not appear have all the facilities the my old trusty 720 has _________________ Jonial

I run my 520 off the SD card. The internal is still OK, but I use the card with an earlier (more stable) Navcore version which I prefer. Lots of people just use the SD card (and often carry a spare copy, sometimes with a different map or with/without our speed cameras in countries which prohibit them (France, Switzerland). _________________ Dennis

Having said which, £30 looks like a bargain repair. But if your computer can see the 720 as a drive when the SD card is not in, try formatting and reinstalling from a (Windows Explorer) backup yourself? _________________ Dennis

Hi Dennis
Thanks for the replies.
Regrettably the 720 is not recognized by my pc unless the sd card is in.
There is no trace of the internal memory.
I can only update the card using a card reader as TomTom Home does not recognize the 720.
I agree that £30 is not a lot these days but as the 720 works quite happily with the SD card I just wonder if the expense is justified.
I have tried every trick I know to have the internal memory recognized but no luck yet !! _________________ Jonial

Just curious as to what you can see on the SD card? Can, you for instance get into the device settings/preferences and do a factory reset? Guess you have already tried that.....
btw, you could also update TT Home - yours seems a bit dated -Version 2.9.7.3256 (Windows) / 2.9.7.2119 (Mac) . _________________ Gee-Pee

Hi Gee-Pee
I can only see or modify the SD card in Tom Tom Home by using an external Card Reader.
Tom Tom Home will not recognize the Tom Tom GO720 at all.
When I turn the device on without the SD Card in the slot, it just will not boot and the symbol for the Internal memory is greyed out.
When the SD Card is in the slot then the device boots OK and the symbol for the Card Memory is Blue
I am in fact using Version 2.9.7.3256 of Home so I need to update my signature (Slapped wrist!!).
Sorry for the delay in my response but I have been away for a few days. _________________ Jonial
