|
|
I am horrified to read the Editorial in this morning's Newsletter warning us not to upgrade to iOS 7 because CamerAlert won't work on it. (Presumably it WILL work, but won't download database updates, same difference as not working)
Apart from telling us to complain to Apple, not PGPSW, there is very little telling us why. Could you please put some meat on the bones of this? What the heck have Apple done to prevent it working in iOS 7.
For me personally this is a catastrophe. I honestly bought an iPhone (3GS) in order to get CamerAlert and have moved on to iPhone 5. Even though I quickly became a fanboy, CamerAlert remains the mainstay of my iPhone. Since becoming a fanboy, I have learned that Apple move onwards and disable older devices as they develop newer systems (my MacBook Pro will not upgrade to latest iOS, Parallels for Mac is now staggering and the newer version will no longer run Windows XP). So I am concerned that in time, I shall have no option but to upgrade iOS. Indeed I expect the next iPhone (6 or whatever), will only have the latest iOS. _________________ Dennis

I second that! There must be something that can be done. _________________ Alan - iPhone 5 64GB, with CamerAlert, TomTom Europe & CoPilot |

From what's been said so far (here and on other forums) its a case of complain to Apple.
Looks like i'll loose my HD Traffic too. |

An email has just landed on my desktop from the dealer, saying my new van has left the factory and is on a boat to England, so it looks like I'll be finding out sooner than later! _________________ Dennis

Well for me the PGPSW team have until the fall to find a solution as that's when I'll upgrade (either new phone or software).
How will tomtom with traffic info subscription be affected?
I never go out in the car without tomtom traffic info and camera alert in operation.
It will be like a step back in time 20 years, guessing as everything. |

Yeah its not a good situation to be in. I now have to decide whether to go back to 6.1.3 and keep CamerAlert running and updating as before, or stick with 7.0 and not be able to update CamerAlert for the foreseeable future.

There is another thought for me - my new multimedia gizmo is supposedly Android. I have to find out how it updates and is accessed - if it's SD card I might be laughing. _________________ Dennis

As far as I have read you can't enter a username and password for the subscription, but it's not clear if this is a bug or an incompatibility of the current TT app with iOS 7 and something that can be fixed in time for the release.
However PGPSW seem pretty certain the issue with CamerAlert isn't a bug/incompatibility and is a new "feature" of the iOS. Which is nice... |

Why would the TT app not work?
I am running the latest public version of TT for iOS and iOS 7 and traffic works fine for me!
I can see there is an issue with the text entry boxes for login but I expect that to be fixed by TT over the next few months before iOS 7 is released to the public.

So if TT will probably work why can't CamerAlert use a similar mechanism? _________________ Alan - iPhone 5 64GB, with CamerAlert, TomTom Europe & CoPilot |

Quite simply, as it is, we cannot detect an individual device so we cannot link that to a user for their subscription etc. Apple have removed the method that allowed us to identify a specific device claiming it's against the users privacy etc. Nor sure how really because it didn't give any personally identifiable data. Just a unique ID.
We need to be able to identify the device in order to link accounts etc and without it we can't.
We are looking at ways to get around this but without a way to uniquely identify a device then we keep hitting dead ends. At present we do not support iOS 7 Beta's. The public iOS 7 is not due until later in the year, around Autumn, and by then we will be able to have a final announcement. Until then the official line is we do not support the iOS 7 beta.

I implied the HD traffic part of the app might not work - I didn't say the whole app wouldn't work. This was based on what others on the TT forums had reported. That they were unable to activate the traffic subscription.
However if you have it working then great there's hope. |

Because TomTom are already flouting the rules. Or, rather, they've not been given the same hoops to jump through as we were. For example we were forced to allow subscriptions to be used across all a users devices. BUT TomTom traffic etc can only be used on one device at a time. If you log in on another device then it logs you out of the other.
I can only assume that Apple have been lenient on other things too.
