Just got a reminder this morning to connect through MyTomTom and the updates include an updated App v12.065.
The info states that the new version has the folllowing changes
- Accuracy has been improved when driving in average speed check zones.
- Speed camera information has been improved on the device. It now includes how recent the information is and whether a new update is available.
- There is now support for map zones.
- Map codes can now be entered as part of selecting an address. A map code is 4 - 7 characters long and is like a worldwide postcode that is available for every location on Earth.
- As you scroll through POIs on the map, the corresponding map code is shown together with latitude and longitude.
I am installing now. |

I have completed this update on my TT1005 AND
It has cleared all my UK & EU PGPS "Warn When Near" Camera settings AND
It has set all my POI's to "Show On Map".
It's possible other settings have changed but I have not found them yet.
I now need a couple of hours to reconfigure my "Warn When Near" Camera settings which has to be one of life's most boring jobs.
Thanks Tomtom |

I reckon that happens to me about 50% of the time. Doubly annoying when TT assure us it DOESN'T happen any more.

Yeah that happens 100% of the time to me these days. TT's thinking must be "He put them on there... He must want to see them!"
Kind of shooting themselves in the foot though, because if you have a lot of POIs installed, enabling them all at once to show on the map means it can slow the device down to a crawl, which is NOT a great advert for the brand!

HOW long????
I regularly have to re-do the warnings for the PGPSW speed cam POIs on my TomToms. That's 36 individual warning set-ups for me as I have the Verifier's files too).
At worst it only takes me 10-15 mins each time. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

I was beginning to think I was the only one with this problem.
It takes a long time because I have UK & EU cameras a total of 67 plus 6 non camera POI's |

That's strange, because I was expecting just such a thing to happen, but my 1005 live, now two years old was fine. Do TT have didffernt set ups for differnet devices based upon when they were purchased? The only issue I have is that I normally run my device with the navigation voice disabled and when I update it with any information the device resets itself to voice enabled. However, I was advised to do a soft reset after any downoad and it resets to voice disabled.
I'm not sure if this will resolve your problem, but I guess it's worth a try.

Say what? I can't find a lot about this on the web. How are they generated etc? I presume this is some distillation of a lat/long. Sounds like a useful thing, but am surprised I've not heard of it before. |

The 'map codes' are generated from lat/long coordinates.
The website is at http://www.mapcode.com/ .
I've never heard of Map Codes before. I think I'll stick with lat/long. |

Jon, Thanks for finding that. I like the idea - it is easier to type, and the old Pluscode or whatever it was that VHS recorders used to use was quite a good and sensible optimisation. I can see it having a place in life. |
