Don't know what I've done but on second connection getting error message 'criticat communication service have faild to start Try resetting mobile device' which I have done but keep getting same message.
Have reinstalled active sync on desktop and done hard reset on pocket pc - still get same message? I'm lost

Yeah, the beauty of ActiveSync 3.7.1 ... Try killing the wcesmgr.exe and wcescomm.exe services and then restart ActiveSync on your desktop (or, if that's too wild for you, reboot your PC).

IIRC the only way out of that problem is a hard reset.
It happened to me some time ago.

Well, a hard reset is pretty much the last resort. First you should try the other stuff, like reboting your PC.

Write down the exact error message you get.

Then go to www.google.com

Good luck!

I had this issue after having used Active Sync 3.7.1 with no problem for months...
I had to go back to my CD install version 3.5, which works fine (hopefully).
