|
|
Been "customising" my new TomTom Start 60 by adding a host of PGPSW POI's which, in itself seems a little hit and miss using My TomTom. Two things I have observed are.
1. When adding POI's sometimes the device does not reflect that you have added a specific community added content (POI) even though it's addition is listed on the my TomTom. Often switching the Start 60 On and Off and then removing the POI within My TomTom before re-adding it resolves this issue. Usually when this happens when checking to see if the POI is present on the device it asks which country you're in? This is more an annoyance but put it down to My ToTom being a bit flakey.
2. Might be related to point 1 but adding POI's (and I'm thinking specifically regularly updating the speed camera database) seems to reset all my devices settings, such as POI warning settings, navigation display bar preferences etc. I'm not sure if this is always going to be the case (new device) but it's a little laborious setting warning distances etc each time you update the speed camera POI's.
Anyone got a view on this or wether this is a known issue with the newer range of TomToms. I far preffered it when TomTom devices mounted as a device on your computer and you just dragged files to the relevant folder - but I guess that's progress for you? |

1. As for the first problem, this was a known issue, but I thought it had been fixed.
Rather than what you're doing,I found the easiest work-round is just to re-boot the unit (with a 20-second press on the power button, until you hear the drum sound) after you've added anything with "Add community content". That should make everything show correctly straight away.
2. That's a new one on me. Let's see if anyone else has the problem. Does it happen EVERY time you add POIs or just sometimes?
Maybe you can list the exact steps you are doing (as precisely as you can) when it happens? _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Thanks for your reply.
Regarding point 2, I added the new speed camera database this morning and it was all fine. I'll keep an eye on it but possibly losing the settings / POI warning was related to a couple of evening adding community based content / POI's and the TomTom resetting. Could yoiu clarify one further point, if I do a re-boot of the TomTom (20 second press) does this retain settings and POI warnings or are they lost? |

A 20 second reboot should NOT cause a loss of any settings, including poi warnings, etc. _________________ David |

One final question, when I was adding custom POI's and the TomTom didn't reflect the added content and I switched it On and Off, when I then went to check if newly added POI's were then present by selecting NAVIGATE-TO POI NEAR HOME, the TomTom would add an extra stage asking me to confirm country - would this be
A. Indicative to the device resetting itself
B. If the device had reset itself would it then lose settings but not content?
I'm guessing it will probably be alright adding the week speed camera updates and I ran into problems when adding the custom POI's which I won't be doing that regularly or in such volumes. |

Asking for a country usually happens after a new map has been installed, and possibly also after a software update. Did you do one of those by any chance?
It would also happen after a return to Factory settings (from the menu) but I would not expect it after a simple re-boot.
And again, you shouldn't lose ANY settings after a re-boot.
I think the best bet is wait 'til the next time you update the cameras and check what happens then.
Now you are watching for it, you might be able to spot exactly what occurs and when. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Yep, see what happens next time I update - I think it likely it will be fine. Seems to me it was when I was adding multiple POI's one after another it got kind of confused, I could tell when a POI category hadn't successfully gone over as the device updating message / spinning wheel graphic, would be noticeably shorter than when one went over successfully. The country request thing was as if it wanted confirmation of which country to use as it asked it after I selected navigate to a POI and I had to select the only option available which was United Kingdom (The Start 60 is a whole Europe map device). Strangeness in the device and how it communicates with my Mac, maybe a few more bugs need to be ironed out on My TomTom. |
