|
|
Hi, I'm new to this so please be gentle with me.
Having seen the possability of adding speed camera stuff to my xda I plunged in feet first and bought a tomtom with a rikaline gps 6010. Installed eveything to the xda sd card, and all is working ok except I can't work out which comms port the device should be set to. When I put it on com 1 it comes back with an error: cannot open com1: port does not exist.
So then, please bear in mind I'm not amazingly technically minded but what do I do?. As nice as all this tech is, a bunch of cables that I could turn into some sort of snare isn't really what I had in mind :| . |

hi marsh and welcome to the site i take it your using a wired gps if so try using winfast navigator to find the gps its available in the downloads area of the site thos should detect the gps
or try this
in the gps screen three are three tabs or buttons at the bottom tap the one saying gps the uncheck the box at the top the select you gps model in the top line and then select the com port wind fast tells you the gps is on then check the box that you unchecked eariler also youll see a picture of a pda with a slide control next to it if it has some zzz's in the move the slide to the right and a tomtom logo should appear and it should work there is a rom update for both xda and xda2 i would suggest that you upgrade to the one for your device
if gps is a blue tooth and you have an xda 2 if you serch my other posts the are some instructions on how bond the bt gps hope this helps you _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. Good bye IOS don't let the door hit you on the way out .

If you have installed the TomTom application to SD card then you may get some performance issues or lock-ups. TomTom advise that the application itself is installed to system memory, maps can of course be installed to storage card memory. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Right, I can't get that download till a bit later. So I'll have a crack with it later on. I'm certain that it's all down to which com port it should be on.
I did read about the SD issues but I couldn't get the program on the normal memory. Also better check I have the updated ROM!.
I'll let you know how I fare!. |

Right, I have no idea what it is I'm supposed to be doing. I've installed the software to my pc and xda but I still can't work out what port it's supposed to be on.
I've updated the rom on the xda and navigator is there but I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing. Please help me before I put a hammer to this pile of cables! 8O |

Do you have a clip on or other external keyboard for your XDA? Also, are you certain the cableset that comes with the Rikaline is for an XDA? _________________ Darren Griffin |

I have got the foldup keyboard but since I've put the program on the onboard memory I think I've left it off. The cable is definately for the xda. I just don't know why it doesn't recognise com port 1. All I can report is that I've put it on com 2 and left it in the car. The light on the xda is flashing yellow and then a steady green, before going through the same cycle again.
Bah. |

Unless you can disable the external keyboard driver in software you will need to uninstall it, this blocks COM1 and is the cause of your troubles _________________ Darren Griffin |

God I love forums. If you can't tell from that then it's very much alive and kicking.
All I'd like to know now is:
1. Can I have the keyboard software on the XDA?, or will it just not work?
2. How do I add the speed camera database and which is the best one to use?
3. THANKS FOR THE HELP |

Glad it's sorted, some keyboard drivers allow you to disable them in the software driver, others don't. It's a common issue and sadly you can't do much about it if they don't allow this.
As for the Speed Camera Database, download it from our Safety Camera pages, you need to copy the .ov2 and .bmp files from the download to the map folder on your XDA.
Then download and install CheckPOInt to provide the alarms, I have some sound files for use with this here. _________________ Darren Griffin |
