Warning warning Wil Robinson........ update 11.035 downloaded over the weekend, ever since, when switching on the unit (1005/Aust 2050) there is no immediate satelite pick up, to the point the only way to sync upstairs is to do a hard reset. After that and in about the normal time to sync upstairs after a hard reset, you get coverage, until you turn off, then a locked up unit trying to sync satelites. Also after turning on, no connection via mobile data network to tomtom services etc. Again, after a hard reset, not a problem, unitll you switch off, back to the same problem.
Warning, warning Wil Robinson |

Just had a look at the tomtom fourm site. 20 pages about this error. A bug with the quickgps files. Many very unhappy customers across the world, especially new ones whose tomtom does not work as it should. Very bad situation for tomtom. |

From reading the reports, it is not as simple as a quiclGPS file corruption, and it is apparrently affecting some units running older software versions. Some users in the USA report the issue with non-live devices that have not been updated.
My guess is that the either the ephemeris (downloaded from the satellites and saved at switch off) is corrupted, or the tomtom real time clock is corrupted AND there is another bug which is triggered by this corruption, preventing satellite lock and the download of clean time and ephemeris data. _________________ Tomtom Go 1005

The whole tomtom world has this problem and I am thnkikng it may very seriously further damage the brand. There is a huge amount of new users who have booted up their new toy, all exicited, turned it off and it doesnt work any more. A lot of returns to stores today I would think. Who knows. may even be a fatal blow to tomtom. Some one at tomtom support is going to get it in the neck big time!!!! |

Now here is a nasty scenario.........the upgrade that started this was on April 1. I wonder if some sick tomtom tech thought what a laugh it would be if I programmed the units to loose their gps signals fo a day ha ha ha. Some tomtom rep has stated it is a leap year bug !!!!!!!!!!!!! Might be right if it happened on the 29th of February.

It got me now as well. Drove for fifteen minutes, but it could not get a GPS fix. I pulled over and reset the unit. I then drove for another 20 minutes the whole time it still could not get a fix.

I wonder if it was a similar problem to what happened to some Humax TV recorders. Their BST algorythm was wrong. They did not switch to BST until Sun 1 April so the EPG was on GMT until Sun 1 April. Aparently it was something to do with it being a leap year and March having 5 Sundays. Someone has calculated that this combimation won't happen again until about 2048 If it was a similar problem, I don't quite see why it didn't affected TT from 25 March though. |

Update from TomTom:
Update 3rd April 10:00 CET: We have identified the root cause for some of our products not obtaining a GPS position since the 31st of March. The issue is caused by a ‘leap year’ bug in the software of the GPS receiver. We are working hard on a permanent solution that we will make available on our website as a downloadable software fix. More information will follow later today.

Anyone know the affected devices yet? Why some and not others? My 740 with latest firmware doesn't seem to be affected. |

I don't understand?? Quick Fix has always been available on my 720 and I connected to TT Home on Sunday, so if the TT data is wrong., then I have obviously downloaded this wrong data.
Sorry, read wrong note 2! I don't have time to sit outside my garage for 30 minutes trying to get a fix. iPhone app is also affected. _________________ TT Go 720 (T)

Mostly affects just the models that require MyTomTom, not Home 2. _________________ David |
