Thanks for the heads-up and yes how sad.
I suppose I can't really complain as I believe my original hardware (branded Cellnet) cost £9.95 and wired-into the car (using a cigar lighter/USB home-made adapter cable) hasn't even cost anything for batteries. But the warning LEDs/sound are sufficient to make decisons such as which of the A3/M3/M25, etc. to use, and as you say far often more useful/accurate than radio announcements.
As a matter of principle/safety I don't use a mobile phone in ANY form when driving and as a "casual" user I'm afraid that I find the subscription/hardware prices for Trafficmaster's alternative offerings laughable.
