|

Well, the replacement for my stolen TomTom has arrived and I have a new Brodit mount and case.
But the Brodit mount does not need the sucker arm that is permanently attached to the unit. And the unit does not fit the case with the arm attached.
Any suggestions, please on how to remove the arm (or will I need a hacksaw?).

It pops in quite easily, the trick is to rotate it 90º before removing and the same for re-inserting. That's the advice they give in the leaflet that comes with the official accessory TomTom mounts.

A useful one for the record. Thanks, Darren.

Official accessory TomTom mounts? Please tell me more. I hate the built in mount that the 825 has. Is feels like a retrograde step. Sometimes I can't get it to lock on the screen. If there's an alternative I'd really like to see it.
One thing I don't imagine there is a fix for is the daft idea of having the lead attach at the top, so I have a great long length of lead flapping about when I don't use the TomTom. I've resorted to leaving it attached to the screen when parked to keep it tidy. Hardly a safe option. |

Thanks Darren
No active mount and no Brodit mount for the 825 yet I see, but at least there's a replacement easymount (I'd worried that if it broke I'd have to send back the whole satnav for repair).
I must take a closer look at how TomTom mount the 825 in their shop displays. I saw it at the Frankfurt motor show and there's was no sucker mounting in sight as I recall. rather annoyingly the TomTom staff told me the only difference between the 800 series and the 1000 was the display. Not true! Oh dear. I'm turning into a mountings ranter.
I notice that there is an active mount with a ball-type fitting for the Via 125. Anyone know if it fits the 800 series?

Yeah, should do.... All TomTom balls are the same size so you can swap parts (You may need a jewellers' screwdriver or small Torx scredriver to get some bits apart)
I think the only reason that mount isn't shown for the 825 is just TT's incompetence.
If you put "Via125" in the "model" box you get that one and several others listed.
If you put Go825 in the box, you don't get that one but you do get the "VIA Air vent mount kit" listed as compatible, but when you go to the page for that, the 825 isn't listed!
You get used to that sort of thing with TomTom..... _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |
