|

I notice from the TomTom site that the speed camera database is now (from the 4th January 2012) illegal in France and when you plug your device into TomTom Home it will remove the French Speed Camera database. Does this mean that I can no longer update my device if I want to retain the database? If the cameras database for France is removed by 'force' is there any way that I can get it back onto my TomTom GO730? |

I'm not sure why this topic got locked.
As I read it the question was specifically about TomTom's own database (as it refers to "Home" removing the data) but the topic mentioned by Gerry is more about the implementation of the law itself and how the PGPSW database will need to change.
I've unlocked this again, so people can try to answer this question (and tweaked the title a bit) _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Once Home has "updated" your Speed Camera data it will have removed the French camera notifications. but there's nothingg to stop you making a copy of the old French files and puting them back on again manually after the update.
On my TomToms the relevant files are:
Safety_Cam_FR_Premium.ov2
Safety_Cam_FR_Premium.ov2.dct
Safety_Cam_FR_PremiumOv2.ver
Or if you don't get the "premium" cameras, then they will be called:
Radar_FR_TomTom.ov2
Radar_FR_TomTom.ov2.dct
Radar_FR_TomTomOv2.ver
All of these will be found in the folder with the same name as the map you're using (such as "Europe", "Western and Central Europe" "Europe-West" etc.) Just copy them off to your PC using Windows Explorer (and why not do another FULL backup while you're at it?), then copy them back again after Home has finished.
But looking at what TomTom has said, they will soon be replacing the camera data with the "danger zones" so it might be worth holding on for a few days to see what re-appears in Home. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Sorry, it was me! I skimmed through the initial post and saw that Gerry had linked to another post so I assumed he was linking to an existing post on the same topic so I locked it as a duplicate.

Thanks for the information. I did search but couldn't find anything specifically about TomTom and that's why I posted. I live in France and it's getting to be a right pain as far as traffic laws are concerned with an increase in local road blocks by the Gendarmes to make sure that all the paperwork, yellow jackets, warning triangle are in order and now also a breath test kit must be carried!! |

I linked to the main topic but didn't lock this one though as it was a bit more specific.
