Complete idiot. I was charging my new sat nav last night via USB via the PC.
This morning I then put an SD card into the in-built card reader on the PC and formatted it - but I can only guess I selected the wrong drive as the Sat Nav now has no map data will come up, although it does have the menu.
Been on the Garmin site to try and find some downloads, but via the WebUploader it doesnt recognise the device so cant register it!
I'm lost as to what to do now, as dont think its even just the maps but probably the driver/software.
Anyone got any ideas? Will also email Garmin but thought I would check on here first as previously used the site. |

Only Garmin will be able to help you in these circumstances, sorry. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Or return it where you got it from ...
Once it's sorted make a full back up before you do anything else |

Had you disconnected and re-connected it, before trying WebUpdater?
Webupdater won't work with a completely 'empty' device, but on disconnecting/reconnecting it should recreate the inventory file (\Garmin\GarminDevice.xml). This would then contain a list of (most of) the missing files - with their current version numbers set to 0.0. From there, I would expect WebUpdater to be able to restore them. (The maps being a notable, but not unsurmountable exception).
(I say should , because it's possible this Nüvi series works differently to earlier ones that I have (successfully) tried this technique on).

Thanks all for your responses. Have toyed with returning it, but would prefer to fix it!
I did disconnect and reconnect whilst attempting Webupdater but windows does not now recognise the USB device ie Garmin.....
Have downloaded the Garmin USB drivers successfully but still does not recognise.
Have since noticed that the unit has a micro sd card slot so if I could download some sort of maps hope could boot up. What's odd is that there is nothing specifically for the model number on the website as I have also requested advice from Garmin but doubt they will help without financial assistance! |

Given that you've managed to 'mistakenly' break it I can't see why you'd 'prefer to fix it', unless of course you're unable to return it?
Garmin have been known to help in cases like this, and would be your best bet if for some reason you don't want to return it to the seller. |

Some years ago I deleted some files on my unit, not maps but POI,s etc.
A freephone call to Garmin and a guy took over my pc and I sat and watched the curser move around the screen while he re installed the missing files.
Have always found them to be very helpful |

Ended up returning it. Morally probably not good but sure it won't take Garmin long to reload.
I shall return when new one arrives to browse for some useful downloads!
Thanks all for advice |

May I refer you to the third post in this thread, and strongly advise that you follow the suggestion there before you go browsing about for some useful downloads |

3rd post about returning it???
I made a mistake in forgetting it was connected. Any speed camera updates or the like I look at uploading to the Garmin (if poss) won't be done before a full back up. |
