|
|
Promised myself that I would take the plunge and get the TomTom app when I got a new iPhone; Only problem is deciding between the UK&ROI (£50) and Western Europe (£60).
95% of the time I would only use it in the UK, but if I used the WE maps is the UK mapping the same in both versions? Also would I suffer any lagging problem due to the size of the app? (400MB vs 1.6GB). Are there any downsides in using the WE or UK maps?
Could use the UK maps from TomTom and the NavFree option when travelling in Europe or just stick with TT Europe?
Any help appreciated. Thanks. |

If storage capacity isn't an issue and you feel you would use the device over on mainland Europe then get the Euro version, the mapping is identical in terms of UK&ROI coverage and I doubt you would notice any drop in speed when calculating a route within the UK running the European version - Mike |

Thanks Mike
32GB iPhone should not give me any storage capacity issues. TomTom's pricing, at times, does not seem to make sense. £10 for the whole mapping of Western Europe (not including UK&ROI).
Do you know if you can select which maps are actually used i.e. if I'm in the UK then I don't need the system to worry about mapping/processing EU maps?

If you go for Euro coverage you can't down select to just UK coverage but the mapping data size doesn't really make a noticable difference to the time to compute a route when you use an iPhone4 - Mike |

I've just bought TT v1.9 and finally decided to buy the Western Europe version over the UK.
I'll be going to France and Germany next year hopefully, so for the sake of £10, it was an easy choice.
Btw, in store in Boots this week, £25 iTunes cards can be bought for £20. I bought £50 worth for £40, redeemed them in the iTunes store, paid the extra £9.99 and "upgraded" to the Western Europe version for effectively the same price as the UK version.

I've been using Western Europe in one form or another on various devices for years. Detail is the same as UK&I as far as I can see.
The whole of Europe is less than the sum of W Europe and E Europe though. Not sure why. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

I was almost tempted. But a look at the app in the App store showed the map coverage and it is very few European countries - sure, France and Germany are there, but I would want Greece and that isn't included. _________________ Dennis

Dennis, Greece won't be in Europe for much longer by the sounds of things! _________________ Tomtom GO 1005 LIVE
