|
|
Hi,
I have a old Navman ICN model widescreen satnav, i think it maybe the ICN60i but nto 100% sure, it is very similr to this one.
However, the battery life of the unit has become virtually non-existent, whcih isn't a major issue as i can have it powered from the car but the real problem is the screen, it has become increasingly more difficult to select the options you want and invariable sselects the wrong one or i have to push quite firmly for it to take the characters when entering in an address. As the satnav is a little old now, i am considering buying a replacement but it seems when browisng online every say nat has good nad bad reviews and i'm unsure which ones.
I am considering either a garmin 3790T or the Tom Tom 1005 stanavs. I wont be paying for any live services so whilst the tom tom comes with 1 year free, thast fine i just wont renew afterwards.
Which of these satnav's is better or is there a different make altogether i shodul consider? My main features i'd like are the lane assist option so that it gives a virual display of what lane to take when exiting motor ways as this is really useful i feel. Aslo wouldnt' mind 3D maps if they are of any benefit (not really seen it in action), and obviously woudl need to do full postcode search which i'm sure they all do now i beleive. The toher stuff liek camera detection etc seems to be on all models.
Many thansk for your help.

If you have no intention of paying for the Live services after the 12 months that are free I would go for the Garmin 3790T out of the two at least you will continue to have traffic information from the RDS receiver supplied with the device.
The true 3D mapping is very good when you get in to hilly areas, makes the normal 2,5D displays look rather dated to be honest.
Both devices offer Lane Assist, full Postcode support and the PGPSW speed camera database can be added to either unit that you mentioned - Mike |

Hi,
Many thanks for your reply. the 3790T was the one i was originally looking at to be honest. Do you know if the adding the POI problem has been fixed as i read somewhere on the forum that people were having problems adding them and the tick box wasnt' remaining on. Also, has the problem of the device rebooting been resolved? it seems some peopel have no issues and other peopel have issues.... making it difficult to determine, i readon here of 2 peopel sending the devices back. Hence why i started lookgin at the TT.
Many thanks.

Mine has re-booted twice whilst in use in the car and thats well over 12 months of usage so I don't see that as an issue. For third party POI files I add them to a microSD memory card and insert that to the device, again never had issues using this method - Mike |

Moved to the "beginners GPS Lounge" section (not necessarily because you're a beginner, but just because that's where most of the other "what should I buy" questions are).
