I am considering updating my North America maps on my TT. My current version is 8.351, the latest map version is 8.7. Is there any way to find out when the latest version was released, and has there been enough significant changes to the maps (Florida region) to justify an upgrade? |

The 8,351 is the Navcore software release version it isn't the North American map version number, go to Change Preferences/ Manage Maps/ Switch maps and select the North American map. Next tap the sat strength meter followed by the version box to display a summary screen that will include the map version number, do this on the device DOO NOT use the emmulator in TomTom Home as that doesn't work correctly.
Alternately use Windows Explorer to open the North_American map folder locate the North_America.pna file right click this and select Open With/ NotePad to display the version on the PC - Mike |

Map version numbers tend to go up in "5's".
So there have been
v800 - yours
v805
v810
....
....
v870 - the current version - released on 17/05/2011
So there have been 14 releases since yours
There are four map releases a year, making yours 3 1/2 years old now.
It's very difficult to find out what differences there are from one map version to the next unless you can find someone who knows the area (and the maps!) well.
Talking generally... Although many people slavishly update to the latest maps every time, they are often disappointed that there don't SEEM to be many changes. However, after 3 or 4 versions have passed, you'll probably start to notice things.
Obviously an area with lots of road building should show more changes, and you might want to update that more frequently than a more rural area where nothing changes from one year to the next.
I would guess that a 3 1/2 year old map is worth updating if you are going to spend any time travelling off the normal tourist routes. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Am I right to assume that there should be a new USA map by the end of August? |

That is correct. 875 maps for all models are due out anywhere from mid August onwards. _________________ David |
