A Roadhawk Black-Box video camera captured this horrifying crash that happened on the A90 near Aberdeen last month.

In the video you can see the white Vauxhall Astra as it joins the A90 in the wrong direction and hits the lorry head-on.

Miraculously there were only minor injuries but the 20-year old car driver has since been charged with dangerous driving.

The Roadhawk system is a windscreen mounted, GPS equipped camera system that continuously records the view ahead together with your location, speed, and G-forces. We reviewed the system in 2009, see here.

Take a look at the horrifying video in full here.

I only hope that the Censored Censored Censored Censored will be banned permanently from our roads for that.

Footage like that only goes to show how valuable the system is. If you look at the aftermath footage on you tube it isn't quite so clear cut as to how the accident happend and who was to blame. Just a car and couple of lorries.

Watch the roadhawk footage back and he's bang to rights.

Bet the skid marks in his pant were as long as the ones on the road! Very Happy

His/her sun visor looks like it's down.

Maybe they were trying out the new GPS mount like the recent post in his Mini car..... Rolling Eyes

I was speechless when I saw this, she should be made to take her driving test again.

I doubt it, most driving offenders get off far too lightly for endangering others' lives

I would actually go as far as to commend the lorry driver, if he had not swerved I would not have rated the car drivers chance of survival.

It's frightening how quick it looks and happens in real time!

She's clearly in the wrong, but in this Google streetview shot I think there's an argument that there should be a no-entry sign (in fact, if you look closely there are some empty poles either side of the road - perhaps some signs have been nicked?). If you backtrack, she has travelled along a dual carriageway and then appears not to have registered two signs (end of dual carriageway and start of two-way traffic) as well as directional arrows on the carriageway before reaching the spot pictured in Streetview below.

Google Streetview

I know it's easy to imagine she may be some mindless loon texting or whatever, but perhaps she may also be like other young people we know who have been rushed through the minimum of training and a basic driving test to get them out on to the road and who have not had the opportunity to develop the experience and observational skills needed to drive solo.

Google Streetview

That's quite scary.... I followed her route on Streetview and you can see how easy it might be for an inexperienced or distracted driver to miss the significance of the signs.
At the vital split in the road heading back down the slip road, there is ONLY that worn out arrow on the road.

As you say, clearly in the wrong, but the signeage could certainly be improved to stop it happening again.

Perhaps a Captain Loophole could get her off on inadequate signage then?

I agree, the road markings aren't that great. Confused

Very fortunate that the crash wasn't worse.

Have a look at the road from this point of view.

Nasty..
