|
|
The latest update to CamerAlert for iOS, v1.2.6, as been approved and is now available in the Appstore.
This update contains a new features, 'also run'. This allows you to specify a navigation app of your choice to start when CamerAlert is launched. We have pre-configured CamerAlert with a list of the most popular navigation apps but there is also a facility for you to add any other app so long as it supports the custom URL feature.
There are also a number of bug fixes, performance improvements and changes to make the app easier to use. CamerAlert can be downloaded now from the iTunes Appstore here and the manual can be found here.
We would also be very grateful if you could take the time to post a review of CamerAlert on iTunes. With every new update the older review counts get wiped. Since most users base their decisions on app store reviews we need you to tell everyone what you think of it! _________________ Darren Griffin

Previous one was not muting the sounds during the calls - very annoying when you try to listen to someone and all of the sudden you get warning being given if your earpiece... Does this one resolves this problem? Or is this feature I have to still wait for? |

As far as I know it should always mute sound during calls, but I don't ever use the phone in car.
How do you have it connected? _________________ Darren Griffin |

I keep hoping the minor change I requested will creep in at some stage, but no sign of it yet. Basically when there are no upcoming cameras but a fewother in the area, if you glance at the display quickly it is not easy to see which section the cameras are in as the 2 grey band headings are tight together. All I asked for was a blank line between the 2 headings to easily see they are separated. _________________ Alan - iPhone 5 64GB, with CamerAlert, TomTom Europe & CoPilot |

if there are 'threats' (i.e. the top cameras) then they will be highlighted in red. so at a quick glance if there is a big red bit then they are nearby, if they are white then they are in the bottom list.
suggestion noted though

OK not good, installed the upgrade all went well, updated the database, ok and then set TomTom to load when CA was opened, all went well, I then terminated CA and then I lost my touch screen, rebooted and tried again and the same happend.
I will delete the app and try a fresh install and let you know if I have the same problem.

Removed the app and re-installed from the app store, same problem even if I dont get it to open TomTom, as soon as I terminate the app I loose the touch screen and have to reboot.
Going back to old version.

On a 3G? Multitasking isn't supported on anything lower than a 3GS running iOS4 so this isn't going to work? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Please let us know if that made any difference. We're not aware of any code changes in the touch screen handling between the two versions. _________________ Lutz

Hi there -
Got the update and it works perfectly - good stuff and thanks.
The manual refers to version 1.2.5 so there is no information on "on start up also run". Not so much of a problem if you are running a standard nav programme as you have helpfully pre-programmed the common nav progs.
However I want to run the TomTom car kit tool to enhance the gps signal and then subsequently run TomTom. So my problem[s] are:
[1] can you chain the apps to run sequentially [probably not]
[2] how do you programme the on startup run box for the Car Kit Tool - i.e. what is the URI [a browse function would help here as I am aware that the location will change dependant on the operating system phone v's pod etc.]
[3] The keyboard which pops up will not allow the entry of spaces and the app is called Car[space]Kit[space]Tool.app
[4] I am a numpty when it comes that this sort of thing - so simple step by steps may be required!
Anything you can suggest would be warmly welcomed.

we can try to find it out but technically that is a question for TomTom. They decide if the car kit can be launched like this, and they define the URI string.
Wouldn't hurt if you post the question to TomTom support. They might even answer, who knows. _________________ Lutz

I will be updating the manual today.

The TomTom car kit tool does not 'enhance' the GPS signal, it is merely a utility to verify that the carkit is working, it's not needed to use the car kit.
The TomTom car kit is seen by the operating system as the GPS and any app that uses GPS will use it if present. If you have been launching the carkit tool in the belief it is needed in order for the cradle to function then you have misunderstood its purpose. _________________ Darren Griffin |

OK sorry I must just be believing the marketing hype on the TomTom website about it having a separate built in GPS chip. I have to say I notice that it "first fixes" much more quickly in the kit than out of it.
http://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/products/mobile-navigation/tomtom-car-kit-for-iPhone/
"Enhanced GPS performance
The built-in GPS receiver enhances the GPS signal, especially in areas where GPS reception is limited i.e. high rises"
If it is as you say then no problem I'll just get it to start TomTom & forget the car kit tool.
Thanks

You misunderstand.
The cradle DOES have its own GPS. But the TomTom car kit tool is an iPhone app and is NOT required in order for the TomTom car kit to operate.
When an iPhone is plugged into the cradle, and power is applied to it, ANY iPhone app that uses GPS will benefit from the GPS receiver in the cradle regardless of whether the TomTom car kit tool is running or even installed.
The TomTom car kit utility app is provided so that you can verify the correct operation of the cradle in the absence of the TomTom Navigation app, nothing more.
Does that make sense? _________________ Darren Griffin
