|

My daughter has just bought a 750 & for simplicity I'd like use the settings & favourites from her old 520, so can I convert a 520 mapsettings.cfg to a 750 mapsettings.cfg by copying the file over & writing a new favourite in Home? |

Your idea is worth trying, if the device refuses to boot after you have put the file on simply take the file off again but nothing to lose in trying this.
1/ Make a full Windows Explorer back up of the device before you mess around with it.
2/ Register it with a unique e-mail; address not one you have used before "mydaugters750@abc.com" would work as far as Home is concerned, it doesn't have to be a working/ valid e-mail.
3/ Make sure its fully up to date - Mike |

Cheers Mike, I'll certainly be following all that to the letter, I've still got the original 520 backup from 2009 but maybe that's a bit ott
I'll be installing the whole system on an micro SD card so should make life simpler provided TomTom home cooperates. |

I copied the mapsettings.cfg file from my 720 with Western Europe map to my 750 with Full Europe map (created new Favourite in 'Operate my Go' ) and it works fine - all camera warnings, favourites etc survived. _________________ GO 750 Live HD Traffic, Map Europe 930, Navcore 9.510 |

Ian, Have a read through This Thread, you will find a post in it that details the sequence to follow to run a 750 from the MicroSD card, read all the thread though so you don't fall in to the same mistake - Mike |

Mike, it makes an interesting read, I wonder if it's something peculiar to the 750 as I've run the old 520 & now a 550 from a memory card for years without a hitch, but cheers, forearmed is forewarned and I'll report back with the results

That's heartening to know, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed though |

I wonder how it will work as the 520 mapsettings.cfg is for the UK&ROI map whilst the 750 will have the European map. _________________ Drivelux |

Some of us have been messing around with taking the MapSettings.cfg file from PND units and putting it in the TomTom iPhone app, it doesn't matter whether its a UK&ROI or European app so I think the same will apply with the PND as long as the map versions and navcore are up to date - Mike |

The results have been a mixed bag really, the mapsettings.cfg was a complete success, saved a new favourite and everything works fine with all information retained.
The SD card is another story, everything copied over following all the steps & the 750 will boot & works but keeps freezing. I formatted the card copied everything over again & exactly the same, works but freezes - I've given up now & it will have to work from the internal memory with part map |

I have no idea what maybe causing the 750 to freeze I am sure others will be able to help, but have you just tried having the maps on the card? |

What speed of card did you use? If it is too slow, this could cause the problem. _________________ GO 750 Live HD Traffic, Map Europe 930, Navcore 9.510 |

I've tried just about every combination I can think of and a 10 minute job has turned into an epic, it works fine as it is & I was probably just complicating life for my daughter so I'll leave it with Western Europe on internal memory - I doubt she'll want to drive to Russia any time soon anyway |

Samsung Class 6 - the identical card works a treat in my 550 although I wish TomTom had stuck with a regular SD card, these micro cards are far too fiddly |
