I am expecting delivery soon of brand new TomTom Go 1000 Europe.
Is there anything I should know before I unbox it, or breathe on it?
I presume you can't back these up still?, so is it just a question of connect to home and pray I get the POI update? _________________ GO 620, Tomtom Android EU,

Yup, that's about it!
I think you'll probably get a few unspecified updates, hopefully including the v10.110 you'll need for POIs.
That's another little "feature", often you've absolutely no idea WHAT is being updated when it happens (although you do with new software).
One thing... you could start exercising your index fingers.... they'll need to be strong if you want to get all the speed camera files in and the warnings set up for them! |

First, back it up using Windows Explorer.
Next, do NOT use Latest Map Guarantee until at least next week as the next map (v865) is due to be released in the second half of February.
Third, it will be a good idea to install the PGPSW camera database, Speed Zoned Complete together with ogg file voice warnings and double size icons.
Fourth, have a piece of paper next to your phone with the number of the local branch of Samaritans. _________________ Dennis

Thanks for the info
Do I need to register a new email address for the 1000, or can I use existing one? _________________ GO 620, Tomtom Android EU,

Same as normal.... Every new device needs a new account name/email address.
You SHOULD be able to "disconnect" an account/address from an old unit and reassign it to a new one, but there have been so many scare stories in the past where something has gone wrong later on, that I just don't think it's worth the risk if you've got access to some more addresses.
Remember also, that the account name doesn't actually NEED to be a real email address. It's only handy if you want to get marketing emails from TT in the future. |

You can't back up a 1000 or 1005... They don't show up in my computer nor can you back up via mytomtom. In fact despite tomtom claiming they issued an updated on 14th Feb not many have been able to up date as mytomtom still shows devices are up to date which clearly they are not. Also you still can't upgrade maps as the latest map guarantee does not yet work.
In my opinion tomtom should not have released these devices without thoroughly checking their updating process worked! |

That goes for me too ,how long do they tend to keep these units current .Judging by past new machines they bring out a new version every year or so .... Aren't these getting close to a year old now _________________ TomTom 5001 |

For those not yet seeing the update, that may be completely normal. TomTom has confirmed that it's a staggered rollout. Your turn will come. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |
