Hi all,
My mate has an ipaq 1710 and has asked me to put updated maps onto a new sd card for him.
I am not a novice when it comes to computers but I cant seem to get this right.
Does anyone know how to do it and maybe give me a step by step tutorial on it please.
many thanks |

If it's got TTN 5 installed you might get TTN 6 to work but locating where to purchase it from will be difficult and the maps are at least three years old by now. It might be time to consider Sygic rather than the latest TomTom PDA software as that's very restricted as to the hardware it will install to - Mike |

Its running TTN5 at the moment I think.
I can download TTN6 but not sure how to install the maps onto the memory card.
What is Sygic?
Sorry but this is all new to me.
Thanks for the replies. |

It's difficult to know what to tell you unless we know what you are downloading and where from. Once we know what you want we can help. |

TomTom Navigator 6 is either pre-installed to a PDA based phone from HTC or purchased on a DVD it is NOT available as a download.
Sygic is an alternative to TomTom and has more up to date maps than TomTom Navigator 6 - Mike |

So if I get the Navigator 6 DVD and an sd card will I be able to install it onto the card, put that into the ipaq1710 and thats it?
The ipaq already has tomtom installed.
I'm hoping that its that easy, just seems too easy if you know what I mean.
Thanks for the help, sorry if i'm being a bit vague. |

As I said in an earlier post in this thread locating somewhere thats actually selling TomTom Navigator 6 is going to be rather difficult, personally I wouldn't bother with it due to the outdated maps - Mike |

Same problem. Because TomTom stopped selling for the iPaq 4700, I've been forced to use the version 7 Repack for a while. Seems like it was derived from a Czech release. The maps are sadly out of date now, and I find that version 8 maps are out now. Could these be compatible with version 7 software? I can't just stick the v8 maps on there, so how do I move my authorization over? |

Does anyone know what the current version of TomTom is, and where I can download just the app only to see if it'll run on my iPaq 4700? |

Only maps are locked down and require activation, the application (Navcore) software is available for free, there is no issue requesting a link to a download for the TomTom Navigator software as long as its from a reputable site - Mike |

Navigator 7 (which you say you already have) is the latest (and only) Windows Mobile software available from Tom Tom. You can buy it from the TT website, and for Western Europe costs a staggering £89.95. If you go to the TT mapstore you can buy version 8.60 of the Western Europe maps for TT7 for £39.95.
However two possible problems. First I am not sure if they would run on your device - it is not listed so I had to put in an HTC device to get a price. Secondly I am not sure how old those maps are. _________________ Peter

Hm, looks like TomTom is dying/dead. Shame.
Sygic hm? Seems to be made in Eastern Europe. I wonder how their US maps are? I wonder whether it gives notifications and a clear layout like TomTom did? Their website is all but dead from where I am.
I wonder whether there's a newer large-screen device I could run it on (maybe Android) that's not a phone and rather cheap? Something that I could buy a dock for the car. I've so enjoyed my docked iPaq with TomTom the past five years. |
