|
|
I have a Garmin nuvi 3760t
im getting very frustrated trying to add custom voice alerts for speed cameras, i have tried adding the alerts in mp3 format which the poi loader accepts alongside the speed cams and images but still getting the bong bong sound instead of the voice alert , i have also tried changing the format to mono wav format and including the sox file , this comes up as unable to convert audio file when using poi loader so i get the cams and images but still the bong bong alert,
im now stuck it doesent seem to want to do it ,
am i doing something wrong ?? is there a setting in the 3760t that i need to set ?? please help its driving me mad !!

Alternative text from another post:
Im a new Garmin user and have just bought the new slimline Nuvi 3760t
im having alot of trouble getting the custom voice warnings for speed cams to work ,
tried both ways described in the how to section of the download page ie : mp3 alongside cams and images , poi loader accepted this but the voices didnt work still get the bong bong noise .
also converted the voices to wav mono format and loaded cams and images with the sox.exe file too poi loader error message at the end of loading couldnt convert wav files so got the same again cams and images work but still get the bong bong sound
the help file in poi loader states mp3 files can be associated with custom poi's so why wont it work ??
please help its driving me mad !!
is there a setting in the nav itself i need to change ie: single tone or continous tone or off ??
any ideas anyone ? |

As I understand it, the 3760T does not have an MP3 player so these won't work.

How have you changed them? The alerts we have are in .mp3 format, they would need to be converted to .wav format using an audio utility. You cannot just rename them? _________________ Darren Griffin |

if you want to look at the converter i used its here:
http://www.nbxaudio.com/download.htm
its very simple and worked well the only thing i didnt know was what format and how many bits the mp3 files should be converted too ? |

I don't have access to a Garmin any more, so cannot check for sure....
But I just looked back on my notes from the last lot of work I did with the voice files and they say:
Quote: | Can Garmin take mono 22k? - Seems not... |
So try keeping the wavs in stereo and also try both 22.050kHz or 44.1kHz sample rate.
(I assume the mp3's you converted were stereo?) |

nope just tried stereo wav format at 16k ( wont go higher) and that didnt work either , it seems poi loader accepts mp3 to convert but when it converts it and sends it to the nuvi it doesent work,
every time ive tried to send anything other than mp3 down the poi loader it says "unable to convert C:\Garmin/pocketgps_uk_specs_30.wav to the proper format therefore the audio file was not transferred."
i think my version of poi loader has a converter built in ?? its the latest version |

I don't think 16k sample rate will work. You'll need to try a different convertor (or a real editor prog. like Audacity) |

As per the instructions on the download page here, the recommended editor is Audacity. It's a free download and can output files in the correct format.
Audacity can be downloaded here. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Can you zip up the files you converted and send to me? darren[at]pocketgpsworld.com
I'll take a look and report back - most likely tomorrow now. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi there,
You need to put the sox.exe in the folder where PoiLoader sits (eg C:\Garmin).
(It won't work if you put sox.exe in your folder with the speed cameras and .wav files).

Thanks Dales
i was putting the sox.exe in the same file as the cams etc , i think they should clarify that the sox file goes into the poi loader file , ie in my case its
C/program files/garmin !!
just trying it now see if it works fingers crossed
