Could someone please confirm what the Factory Reset actually does. e.g. if I have updated both the Application and maps on my device, are these affected by the reset. Can't say if I have ever thought about this before although I have used the FC to solve problems, but the circumstances were on a device which had no updates on it.

The map and Navcore installed to your device will not be affected by a "Restore Factory Defaults" what it will do is wipe any usename/ email address and it clears the MapSettings.cfg file forcing you to re-enter your Home address and any POI warnings etc - Mike

When I did one it didn't affect the NavCore or maps and just reset all the settings. Any user customisations such as Home location are also lost.

Take a backup first because restoring it will undo the FC.

Thanks guys and Happy New Year.

That's what I hoped and assumed. Just want to clean one of my devices and sell it. Will do a Factory Reset and remove all the PGPSW Files - already have a backup. Wink

Here's a list I made a couple of years ago GeePee.

Factory Reset - What it does and doesn't do

A few things may have been added since then but I think it's still right as far as it goes.

That's a great list, Andy, as David commented - he's also right about the time synch on more modern devices. Other than that I suspect that is a definitive list and well worth retaining. Perhaps it could be included in the PGPSW TT Forum FAQS ?

Thanks for the info,

I have been recently advised by TomTom Support to do a factory reset. I've already done some semi restores, and I'll do another full backup before I take anther step!

Now, instead of having to remember how I've customised my TomTom 950, what files do I need to restore from, in order to keep things the same?

Is is just the following file?:

MapSettings.cfg

Regards,

As mentioned above I did a total backup after stupidly following TT CS and doing a FC. I lost all my MapShare changes and a total restore bought them all back. Probably the safest bet tbh.

Depends what settings you need to save.

MapSettings.cfg stores (amongst other things) your Home Location, recent destinations, POI warning settings and which POIs are set to show, for that particular map. There's a separate file for each map installed.

But other settings like for example your MapShare corrections, your email address/TT account name, phone settings and Bluetooth audio device pairings are all saved in other places.

Hi Andy,

The settings I'm interested in are the account and password (although not necessary now) and settings for preferences e.g. status bar, etc.

Note: If you are going to sell your TT, then make sure you edit the file called: ttgo.bif

As your email or TT HOME email address you use is stored in that file.

And it may also show your home location.

Not sure if the file gets reset when you do a factory reset.

Good point, though I try and use an imaginary email address for Home & TT Live services and I always remove (or create a new false Home address) when selling. i.e. johnsmith.2011@virgin.net

I think it does, as after a FR, you have to replace the Home location.

After you have performed the FR open the ttgo.bif file in the root of the drive letter associated with the device by right clicking the file and use OpenWith/ NotePad if this still contains certain personal details then further editing might be required. Look at the Lat/ Long for the Home address etc - Mike

Noted, thanks Mike. Had a look there, just so that I have an idea what it looks like. Will make sure that if I get a sale, I will check before it goes.
