Hi all I have a One IQ with W&CE 2GB v840.2562.
My question is would there be any great difference to the latest v860 map?
I have recently started working around the Leeds & Bradford area and the maps arnt great. Is it possible to upgrade to just the UK map?

Thanks in advance

Cliff

You would need to buy a UK&ROI map then subscribe to the map update service if you wanted regular updates.

There is no direct upgrade/downgrade path from the W&CE map.

There probably won't be a huge difference between the 840 and 860 maps, but it's hard to guess on specifics.

If there's something particular that affects you a lot, like your home city centre being pedestrianised and it *has* been added on the new maps, then you're going to be happy with the update. But if it *hasn't*, then no amount of them telling you how many thousands of OTHER roads have been corrected is going to improve your mood.

If you've got some specific places where the old maps are wrong, post the details here and someone with the latest map version can tell you if they have been corrected.

Cool What we need is something like....

"At Lat/Long 51.12345, -0.6789, Station Road should go from the dog-leg in Main Street, and north to join the A123, but on the v840 maps it stops half way",
or

"At the north end of Fred Bloggs Avenue (coordinates 51.67890, 0.43210), the v840 maps say you can turn left, but the road was blocked by a new block of flats years ago.

With that sort of detail we can check on the new maps for you without us having to know exactly what Leeds looks like ourselves.

Some improvements in Newcastle when comparing v8.55 and v8.60 map data. I sent a lot of error reports directly to Teleatlas using their website around a year ago and some of them have finally been implemented.

As I recall for the UK/RoI maps the 860 map must be about 50mb larger than the 840. Unfortunately it is not obvious what this 50mb brings, perhaps nicer colours, or more ALG, or more POIs?

Talking about Leeds and the 840/860maps:

1) Does the 860 map have the dual-carriageway flyover (A61 spur) from N53deg46.993' W1deg32.013' running NEish over the top of a new roundabout at N53deg47.184' W1deg31.634' before joining backup with South Accomodation road which in turn blends into the A63 at about N53deg47.400' W1deg31.531?

2) The A63 runs E/SE from this last junction until it joins the M1 at J45, this road is on the 840 map but it is shown as an unnamed minor road. Is it shown as A63 on 860map?

Thanks

On the W&CE map it's Yes and Yes. Presumably all maps covering this area would have the same detail.

Although the A61 flyover is shown, the junction underneath doesn't look like a roundabout, only a left/right-turn T-junction.

The A63 is shown as dual-carriageway all the way to the M1.

They have updated in 860 the north centre of Wakefield in the Marshway/Jacobs Well/Union St where the road junctions have moved and changed with the redevelopment.

In wondering what the increased UK map size might have been due to, I forgot another thread suggesting the POI files look like they have been increased. An alleged improvement?

The UK & ROI v855 map included 104804 POIs, this has been increased to 695675 on the UK & ROI v860 map.

New POI categories have been added: Cultural Centre, Embassy, Ice skating rink, Vet, Leisure Centre

One category has been removed: Exhibition Centre. This is a bit odd as it contained places that people often drive to like the NEC.

Most categories contain more Points on the 860 map compared to the 855 map, for example Petrol stations has increased from 7059 POIs to 11699 POIs, Shops has increased from 3154 POIs to 340388 POIs.

The file containing "rich" POI detail "crpoi.dat" has also been increased in size.

As always, quantity does not necessarily equal quality. For example an entry for "Jobcentre plus" has been included in the Embassy category.

I am not sure if it is just where I live but Places of Worship POIs appear to be only one religion (not churches).

I'm no expert on religion but there are a range of faiths included within the POI set, I can see Cathedrals, churches (unspecified denomination), Roman Catholic churches, buddhist centres, krishna temples, jewish communities, islamic centres, hebrew congregations, baptist churches, sikh temples, methodist churches, hindu temples, mosques, buddhist centres, The salvation army, Jehovah's witnesses, Quakers and several others where, in my ignorance, I am unable to identify which religion would be practiced in a building with that name.

Local (to me) churches are not included but Peterborough Cathedral (my nearest) is included.

There seem to be locations to suit most peoples beliefs.
