Hi
I wonder if someone could tell me what Sat Nav's are available that give spoken speed camera voice alerts.
I have a TomTom 720, it's excellent, but no longer available. My wife suffers from an inability to keep to a speed limit and likes the fact that my 720 tells her that she is approaching a camera and what the speed limit should be, not just a beep. So I purchased a TomTom XL v2 assuming that having text to speech this would do the same with cameras. What a disappointment, this device would not even allow me to have 2d with the direction of travel at the top let alone speaking camera warnings.
Kind regards

Depends, many of the TomTom's do if you use our database, as do some Garmin's.

You can change the alerts on TomToms own database but as they do not differentiate between camera type or speed it's not much use.

As you are a subscriber you should be able to use the voice alerts on the XL as you do on the 720?

Yes, you can certainly have voice warnings on the XL just the same as on the 720 if you are using the PocketGPSWorld database.

Can you post back with more details of what you're doing now?

I'm surprised that you say the XL won't do a 2d display with your direction at the top too.
I could understand it if it was the NORTH at the top view they had dropped, but I'm sure that if they do a 2d view at all it would be the normal driving view with the car icon pointing upwards. .

My XL Live can certainly do it, but the XL2 did have some bits left out

Darren and Andy - note the compatibility chart on the download page where it says Start, Ease and XL-2 don't do the database.

Google for TomTom refurbished units - e.g. the 730 is available from TT at around £150, the 530 is a bit cheaper.

XL-2 does work with the PGPSW Speed Camera database and the associated alerts as long as its running the latest Navcore, TomTom realised that not having full POI options on the device was a poor idea so introduced it for this model with a recent update.

Start and Ease can be made to work via Custom Menu but don't work with third party POI files straight out of the box - Mike

So we need to update the compatibility chart. And jaflonpink needs to update the software (Navcore) on his wife's XL.

I've mentioned that the compatibility chart needs updating for the XL2 and Start more than once, but it doesn't happen. Crying or Very sad

To whom? I've added XL2 and Start to the supported list with notes.
