|
|
Hi all,
Would any harm come to my GlobalSat BT308 if it were left on permanently??
The reason I ask is that I was thinking of leaving it in the boot of the car (I use an external ant.) plugged into an ignition switched charger.
Anyone have any advice on this please.
TIA |

You may want to disconnect the device's battery to prevent it from being mis-conditioned. Other than that there is no harm _________________ Lutz

I've done exactly what you suggest with no major problems so far. My BT308 is mounted in the boot and hardwired via an adapted 12v socket extension (keeping the original plug which incorporates the adapter). The external ant is mounted on the rear shelf.
The only thing to watch is the strength of the blue tooth signal to your pda. The signal is weak and I'm considering moving the the BT308 within the boot to see if I can achieve a higher signal level. |

The BT-308 has a standard signal strength via Bluetooth to the PDA. Globalsat have released the BT-318 and that offers about double batery life and also a much stronger signal strength. They say it will be usable up to 80m away.
It also has an optional GPRS cradle that will let you access internet/traffic services via your SIM card.

i have the bt-318 and tomtom navigatr 3 running on an ipaq h1940
i can get the bt-318 to connect to the ipaq using bluetooth, which makes the blue led flash quicker, and it also lists two connections in outgoing connections in the bluetooth manager.
what im struggling with is getting the reciever to work in tomtom... any help on what setting i should use in the tomtom gps program???

Adam,
If you have the GPRS cradle you will have 2 outgoing connections. GPS and GPRS. The GPS one is normally either Com 8 or 5 not too sure on the 1940. _________________ Mike Barrett |

The outgoing Bluetooth serial port can also be COM6: on some iPAQs! The best thing is to look in the Bluetooth Manager settings for the serial port to find out what port number is being used.
