Last Thursday I downloaded a software update from the Garmin website and since then the unit will not switch on; either manually, in the cradle or connected to the PC. Has anyone else experienced this problem? |

I've heard a few other reports of issues with the 3790 after a recent update. You'll need to place a support call with Garmin as it needs replacement/repair in these circumstances.

Thanks for that Darren, I'll give them a ring as soon as I can.
I had reported it through the online fault logging tool, but responses to that are notoriously slow. |

I'm just about to update to 2.50 of the firmware. As it is a loaned device for review it could be interesting
I'll let you know how I get on!

How strange... it 'installed' the update and told me to restart the device, which I did. thing is, it says the software version is 2.30 NOT the 2.50 that was meant to be installed!!
However, on 2nd attempt the update went according to plan. Unfortunately I can't join in with the Bricked-Device Club but I will certainly mention the issues in the review.

I have to say that every time I go onto the MyGarmin site and use the dashboard it tells me that there is a software update available.
It's not my day today either. I had my windscreen replaced because of a chip and resultant crack, had to wait two weeks because it was an insurance job. I remembered to take everything out, Satnav cradle, tax disc holder, National Trust sticker; except for the Satnav aerial. However I was pleased to see that all had been replaced when I checked the car out this afternoon. But it was only later on this evening that I discovered that the pin which connected the aerial to the receiver had been broken. Oh fiddlesticks! |

Satnav antenna, do you need an external antenna? Rare that modern devices require them or is your install unusual? _________________ Darren Griffin |

3790T car dock only has a mini USB socket for power and RDS data from the supplied receiver, certainly no where to plug an external GPS aerial in to the dock or the device, neither is such an external aerial needed with this unit - Mike |

Sorry, an unusual moment of unclarity there. The aerial I was referring to was the Traffic Aerial, usually suckered along the bottom of the windscreen.
Rang Garmin and the unit is now back with them for a fix/replacement. The insurance company are dealing with the Traffic aerial. The last few days have me realise just how much I depend on my Satnav.... |
