This app in the app store supposedly allows you to add custom POIs to the TomTom app. Has anybody tried it?
If a 3rd party app can add TT POIs, can't you guys also do the same? _________________ Alan - iPhone 5 64GB, with CamerAlert, TomTom Europe & CoPilot |

And it's the lack of alerts that is the bigger issue. But as Mordorf asked, what is the app called or a link? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Ah yes, that app does not allow you to ADD custom POIs to TomTom. Instead you store POIs in that app and when selected it passes the address to TomTom as a destination. _________________ Darren Griffin |

The app doesn't make it clear it only passes the POI to TT. In several places it says it adds to it. Also, in that case, why would it need an active internet connection to 'transfer a location to TT'? _________________ Alan - iPhone 5 64GB, with CamerAlert, TomTom Europe & CoPilot |

Because it uses the Google 'hook' that TomTom support to send the address to TomTom. No data connection, no access to the hook.
When you select a POI in the app it uses Google to convert the address and pass it to TomTom. Apple would not allow a third party app to access the file structure of another app anyway so it's simply not possible.
Of course you can save the address as a Favourite once it has been passed to TomTom but nothing more than that.
This app functions in the same way as others that are available for Navigo. It could be misleading to potential buyers although I don't think it's intended to be so. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I'm glad that I found this thread. As I was looking at the Roddy Simpson "Custom POI" Utility for TomTom Sat Nav App.
I'm using DiskAid on my Windows laptop to add third party (including some of my own) POI categories (.OV2 and .BMP files) to a folder that TomTom APP can use.
Whilst this is great as I can use POI categories I have created on other TomTom PNDs, I would like to be able to at least add (current GPS location), if not delete and modify the details of, individual POIs within third party POI categories and have the newly updated POIs immediately available for use by TomTom APP without having to use the Google hook and thus a data connection which would be useless if I'm abroad as I turn off data whilst roaming.
As this thread is four years old, has any other app been developed that can modify the third party POI categories that I install on the iPhone with the help of DiskAid?
