Hi
I'm new to the forum. Have decided to buy CPL but also need US maps. Unfortunately ALK tell me the software isn't compatible, so the US maps won't work without the US software - and I would have to uninstall one before installing the other. Too much hassle!
This may be a dumb question - but is it possible to buy US maps from other manufacturers and have them work with CPL?
Thx for your time

Not sure why they told you that... I have been using CPL both with US maps and with European Maps (Germany to be precise) without problem. The only thing that is really different is that you GB folks drive on the wrong side of the street. But this should be covered by the map data.
Try ask them again, more firmly. I can even send you a small piece of US map so you can test it yourself. _________________ Lutz

Hi Lutz
I spoke with Christina in Sales at ALK, USA. She confirmed that the US maps would not work on an xda2 with CPL UK or Europe installed. So its amazing that you have managed to get them to work together!
As you suggest, could you send me a small portion of a US map so I can try?
Also do you know if any other 3rd party US maps would work with the CPL BT GPS and xda2 combination? For example could I buy the Mapopolis maps and run their software when in the US and revert to CPL for UK and Europe?
Thx

yes, you can use any software with your BT receiver and the XDA2. Mapopolis will work just fine. (and it is free for 10 days) _________________ Lutz

Cosmo,
CPL does not interfere with any other program on yur XDA II. The only program tht we know of whaich is doing something in that area (for example permanently occupying the BT serial port) is TomTom GPS 2.08+ . But even in that case reverting to TomTom GPS 2.07 solves the issue.
The only real complaint we have against CPL is that during installation it completely ignores the settings that a user may choose, and it fails to install onto storage card. We told ALK about that numerous times. So far without response. _________________ Lutz
