|
|
Hi guys, can anybody explain why the real-time gps speed on CamerAlert has become a bit laggy with the new version? I put 2 iphones side by side, one with the old version and one with the new and the old version definitely gives a faster more accurate update of your current speed. When accelerating, the old version almost updates real-time which I found excellent, but the new version can take up to 5 seconds to get the speed right. The new features on the new version are great, but I might go back to the old version as I need the real-time speed to be fast and accurate more than I need the new features. |

we increased the polling interval (but certainly not by 5 seconds!) as this improved the overall speed and responsiveness of the app. eg when you click on a button or camera icon etc - previously it did not always 'detect' the press.
as the core functions of the app are to give warnings and allow new cameras to be submitted we wanted to give priority these.

yeah, but the gps is more accurate than the speedo (in version 1.0.2). Also the digital display from the app is easier to look at than looking at the analog speedo as my phone is on my windscreen so it is more in line of sight. Also when you are going through a speed camera zone or average camera section the speed you are doing and the speed limit are side by side on the app so it saves having to look up and down to try and match speed.
Most of the time there is no speed cameras, and people shouldn't be reading from their phone while they are driving about upcoming cameras, so I would actually prefer having a big speed reading on the screen when there is no cameras that you can easily glance at and then switch to the map when there is a camera coming up. That's just a personal preference as I used to use an app that did that and I quite liked it, it makes the app useful all the time not just when there is a camera. |
