Loading Maps

Hi, i am new to this, just bought a nuvi 1310, i want to know how can i install maps onto external memory i.e sd card, when i do this i cant sem to find the map on my nuvi, do i need a program called mapsource!!!, sorry for the explenation but this is my first sat nav.

You must have Garmin-compatible maps (.img format) either purchased from Garmin or free from openstreetmap etc.

Mapsource isn't necessary, but it does mean that you can select and combine multiple map tiles.

The map file on your SD card should be in a folder named Garmin. The map file must be named gmapsupp.img for the Garmin to recognise it.
