Hi everyone

There seems to be two completely different generations of S300T, yet with exactly the same model number.

This shows a small square satnav:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Navman-S300T-Sat-Nav-/120617694301?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_GPSSystems_GPSSystems&hash=item1c155ff45d
and

Whereas the Navman.com website shows a widescreen silver-bezel device.
http://www.navman.com/in-car/europe/uk/Products/Sat-Nav-Devices/S300T/

Can anyone comment?

Thanks, Paul

Yep - the silver bezel one is the Navman S300T - using the original Navman Spirit software

The others (smaller) devices are later generation Mio Navman S300Ts which use a later edition

You can view the spec at http://eu.mio.com/en_gb/navman-m300.htm for the latest one and http://www.navman.com/in-car/europe/uk/Products/Sat-Nav-Devices/S300T/ for the original Navman model

Why they named them the same, who knows

Their new 475 and 575s are great units for the money though, particularly the 475s for under £90 at Halfords with 2 years free map updates

any clear winner between the navman 475s and the navigon 2300 units? or a matter of brand preference?

The simplicity if the Navman system (speed of data entry and just the menu system in general) is far clearer and quick to use than the Navigons

The routing engine provides (me) with a better choice of route, it also has TomTom IQ Routing built in

With the Navman you can also RENT maps for any part of the world for 3 / 7 / 28 days if you travel - without having to purchase a mapset for life

The clarity of map display is also better with improved zoom

The Navigon system has some nice features including their excellent MyRoutes (3 route choices) and Road Avoidance option (has to be selected every time you enter a route) and their routing engine falls somewhere between the Navman and the Garmin (for me - and routing is always personal so others may disagree)

But I think the Navman 475 at £89 at Halfords with 2 years map updates is hard to beat

Good advice, thank you. The Navman 475 doesnt seem to be at Halfords at all... the Navman 470 is £89.99 but doesn't have traffic rerouting in Sad

The "S300T" with the black front is actually an S300 series - S305 Traffic.
