Totally new to this. I like walking (UK coast path) and am looking for a Sat Nav for the car. Is here a device that will serve both? I know some compromises will be necessary.

1. good battery life (5 hours).
2. 4" screen (!).
3. mains and car charger.
4. only need UK & Ireland.
5. not fussy about speed cameras and gizmoes like that.
6. Budget? Say £200.

Or maybe a combination with some integration.

PS. I prefer manufacturers who do not actively prevent 3rd party software plugins (if such things exist on these devises).

Welcome to the forum, have you considered a PDA combined with a GPS receiver and Otter box, that will get you the hardware capable of doing what you want and is possible within your budget, next you need maps for the road and costal way, thats going to cost at least as much again.

As for a standalone waterproof PND style device that is good at both on and off road use there was/ is the Road Angel 7000 but to be honest it wasn't very good either on or off road, AFAIK these units are nolonger available - Mike

Hm, If I have two units then I may as well have separates anyway. Suggestions for either welcome. I suppose that I will get the maps if I buy individual units (a GPS and satnav) without further cost. But it will double my costs?
