|

Oh dear. TomTom have now announced Darth Vader has joined the list of celebrity voice downloads with more Star Wars characters yet to come including C3PO, Yoda and Han Solo in a partnership with Lucasfilm Ltd and VoiceSkins.com,
Many owners will be wondering why TomTom are spending so much time on what are little more than bells and whistles when so many issues remain in the devices themselves.
So whilst I'm sure we all wished they would concentrate on getting HD Traffic working properly and correcting the issues with map corrections and IQ-Routes slow downs, you will instead have to content yourselves with the prospect of a lovely Vader voice for the princely sum of £7.99.
You can hear samples of the Darth Vader voice at starwars.tomtom.com/voices/.

What a waste of time!
Is it me or do KITT & Darth Vader sound nothing like the originals?
All these gimmicky TomTom voices get on your wick after a few miles
On my 910 the Loquendo text-to-speech is still fantastic compared to many any other TTS voices I’ve heard _________________ 🔸🔸 Currently using TomTom GO 940 & Locus Map 🔸🔸 |

Have to agree.
I suppose I've tried about a dozen of these voices over the last few years, and quickly get bored with them and go back to the originals.
The best one I had was Clint Eastwood, I thought it was pretty good, but in the end I got fed up with "You have reached your destination - Punk!"
Probably still on the TT come to think of it. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |

Would be better without the forced movie quotes. Just do the voice. |

I have to admin the video made me chuckle
....but will TomTom sell enough copied to make it worth while?
I'm sure Lucasfilm's charged them an arm & leg
Now TTS in KITT or Darth's voice; that would be worth buying _________________ 🔸🔸 Currently using TomTom GO 940 & Locus Map 🔸🔸 |

seems a little bit pointless, they have been available for years by third parties and freely avalaible, I personally only use sharon, perhaps a case of Tomtom being behind as usual, and should concentrate more on map updates. _________________ Moto G5s Plus, Sygic 17.4.8 |

Can I ask a daft question about these voices? Am I right in thinking that they lose all the nice street names and "follow A111 for 15 miles" type stuff? If so, then it seems such a big step backward. |

Correct, these use pre-recorded files rather than computer generated Text To Speech. So no road names, numbers etc just turn left, turn right, at the roundabout etc etc _________________ Darren Griffin |
