Not driven in france for 12 years. Going from Calais to Rognes (nr Marseille) via an overnight in Dijon.
Whats best, to use my Go 520 and buy a French map?
or
To use my wifes IPhone which neither of us are clued u p on at all (in terms of using it as a Satnav).
Next question, I downloaded years ago from this site a speed camera database (when the site was free), but after updating my TT firmware one time, the audible alarms stopped working and I never got them to work again.
I want to start afresh, latest UK and French database for camera locations, and an idiots guide to downloading/installatin in my Go 520 (presuming we do NOT go down the iPhone route)

I would buy a French map for the TomTom (better the devil you know!) and an SD card to put it on, so you don't have to mess around removing the UK map temporarily to make room.
buy the card first and put it into the Go before connecting to "Home" to buy and install the map.
As for the speed camera catabase, first remove anything in your UK map folder beginning with "PocketGPS....", (Do this by connecting the Go to your PC and browsing the TT with Windows Explorer.
Next, click on the "Download here" speed camera symbol on this or any other forum page. As well as the actual file downloads on the same page is a big chart, look for the TomTom Go section and on the right are two links to a set of instructions/help file and a video tutorial.
On the help page is a link to the Audio Warnings page which also has a set of instructions at the bottom.
Ask again if you can't find any of them or anything isn't clear.
Beware of the ""Open" road as you leave Calais, The police love to catch speeding UK motorists that break free from the 70 MPH speed limit and fall foul of the Peage speed limits. Less tolerant about a "little" bit over the speed limit then there UK counterparts. You pay cash fine on the spot, or can be escourted to a ATM, to get money out !
Also
The Peage ticket, gives an entry time onto the peage and an exit time when you leave. This time is calculated to give an average speed, break that and you will be talking to Mr Plod and arranging a trip to the ATM.
Being French "bless'm" , they do not care if you pound down the peage at 200 MPH and not get caught, as long as you rest up a while to bring your average speed down.
