|
|
In a way a dumb question but with Tom Tom its always best to check first with the experts !
I am about to buy and download the USA map for the 720. I have selected the 2gb mem card...empty...I have installed in my 720. I have also selected the mem card as the destination.
Assuming download all goes OK is it simply a case of selecting the map in the menu on the 720 when in use ?
Oh..and Tom Tom don't list the GO720 in the perinstalled SD card list for this map. Can I use teh 730 SD card map instead ? _________________ TomTom 720

That would be correct. I don't suppose you have a 4-gig sdhc card available, do you? Yes, the 2-gig card should be fine. It's just that with the 4-gig, it'll give you more flexibility.
Anyway........select the sd card when you connect to Home. Be aware that the current version of Home has 'issues' whereby it sometimes disregards the user's selection and tries to install on: internal when the selection is external or vice-versa or both!!
Not for everybody and not all the time. Just keep an eye on it.

Think you added your last paragraph while I was typing. The 720 and 730 use the same map. _________________ David |

Thanks dhn...you Canadians are always one step ahead...
2gb is fine as I only intend to use it for the USA map.
I assume it appears in the 720 menu when installed..its for my son who is on at _________________ TomTom 720

On your unit, Manage Maps, Change Map. You should see listed something like Western_Europe on one row and United States on a second row on the screen. Just select the appropriate map, that's it! _________________ David |

Ah..same as the good old PDA software...thanks again dhn. There does seem to have been a reduction in the number of places to buy in the UK since the last time I looked. Handtec have no stock and the other , usual, online outlets seem to have gone....
So it looks like a download from Tom Tom...£54 isn't to bad ... _________________ TomTom 720

Due to the new way that TomTom handle the security locking of the maps to a particular devicce, the only way to buy the maps via download is from TomTom themselves. Using 'Home' to buy and download it is the easiest way. |

Assuming I don't have a problem downloading maps for a 730 to my 720.....
Although there appears to be another way of doing it through the site that does actually list the 720 as a device.... _________________ TomTom 720
