I did a long hill/road walk of 60 miled in one 26 hour session a few years ago, and my e-trex was invaluable. Then it went into a cupboard until now, when I'm planning an even longer one of 80ish miles, and I've lost the handbook!
Waypoint planning and review only deals with straight line distances n'est ce pas?.
Can Mike (thanks for your excellent review) or anyone else tell me how to read the actual trip distance? I've completely forgotten, and fiddled unsuccessfully with it today at the end of a walk.
(Stainforth, for Pen Y Ghent, is about 30 miles from my house. I hope to walk there, do the 24 miler Three Peaks, and then 30 miles home from Clapham, after coming off Ingleborough. I was 72 last week, and thought to match it in miles!)

Welcome to the forum, wrong Mike but I might be able to help out, firstly is it the Garmin EtrexH that you have? - If so click Here for the user manual, if its not the H model let us know which one and one of us will find a manual doawnload link for you.
Best of luck with the walk, thats one of my favourite areas for walking love Pen-Y-Ghent and Ingleborough but Whernside I always find a bit boring out of the three! - Mike

Dear Mike,
Thanks for your speedy help. Of course, as soon as I'd registered and posted my first ever 'blog?', I thought 'I wonder if I stored that manual in the A4 folder of technical manuals?' Doh! There it was, on top! Off up and down Longridge Fell now, near where I live. What a glorious morning. Enjoy YOUR walks.[/u]
