With Nokia having a 38% share of the smartphone market, 2.5 times Apples share, and Nokia making navigation free I thought it was time to see how many of us are Symbian users.

Of course it may be that the relative lack of support for Symbian here is self-defeating and Symbian users congregate elsewhere but I really like the new app and would like to see it on the Symbian platform. Any views anyone?

Upgraded late last year from a Nokia N82 (S60v3) to a Samsung i8910 Omnia HD. This runs symbian S60 v5, but is more or less stuffed by the Orange Custom Firmware that is loaded on it.

Route 66 sucks, Orange Maps isn't bad with the built-in GPS, but there does not seem to be a facility to add Custom POIs, henceI can't use the Camera Database from here.

I'd only use it if I didn't have my 520 with me.

Google maps 4.0 is great for in town navigation on foot, though.

I use Google Maps 4.00 mainly for the Buzz layer. With the new Nokia maps walking and driving navigation is free. Very Happy

Have you tried Speedcam? So far it's the best free speed camera app on the Symbian platform and uses the PGPSW database. It's for S60 3 so I'm not sure if that is backwards compatible with touch phones though?

Regrettably, Nokia Maps can't be installed on the Onmnia HD and my N82 will only run Maps 3.03, for which you havt to buy the Drive & Walk licenses.

I looked at Speedcam, but it needs signing and that's something I haven't tried or am comfortable with at the moment.

If you've any ideas how to put Maps 4.0 on to the Samsung I'd be happy to hear them Confused

Yes, it's crap. Try the Speedcam app. Works for me. I too wish that the PGPSW app was developed for Symbian but, until it is, Speedcam is the next best thing.

can you install the PGPSW database onto ovi maps 3? This would be good until the add is released.

Smile just been looking at the destroyed cameras on speedcam, there are loads.

No way that I know. Speedcam works as an overlay to Ovi Maps though.

Hi.
I also am a symbian user (Nokia E71) and also agree that it would be great if the PGPSW app. was developed for Symbian.

I use the Speedcam app. which thanks to AMWebby's help so far, works brilliantly. Very Happy

And we are watching Wink

I'm not a Dev so have no idea what issues we would have coding for Symbian but we do want to cover more platforms eventually.

You're not forgotten I promise Smile

If you want a tester, I'd be more than happy. As written before, I have a Nokia N82 (Symbian S60 v3) and a Samsung i8910 (Symban S60 v5).

Both are Orange 'branded' and not hacked or jailbroken - if you can do that to Symbian. Smile

We're a long way off that! We had to learn all the ins/outs of iPhone programming from scratch so to offer a Symbian version we'd need to do the same again. That is by no means an easy task!
