Hi, I'm planning a trip to South Africa soon but cannot find a suitable satnav for the trip. I have a HTC Touch 3G, and an Orange SPV M700 that I can use. Can anyone tell me if Google Navigator can be used on either of these, also will it cover S Africa? Finally, does this program need a constant Data Connection, because if it does, it will obviously mean a great expense?

I have been to SA a couple of times and used TTN6 installed on a HTC TD running WM. I purchased the map from TT. It worked very well - all the roads we used were on there, even the dirt roads. Street addresses were very good - took me straight to the hotels we were using.
TT do not use data connection - the application and map is on the SD card. _________________ Peter

Thanks for the reply. I have TTN6 on my Orange SPV M700, but unfortunately maps for Version 6 are no longer available to purchase now that TT Version 7 has been released. |

Google requires a data connection and regardless is not available for WM phones as yet.
TomTom v7 has SA maps as does NavNGo's iGO8. iGO is a very nice solution and of the two it would be my choice. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Maps for TTN6 are still available to purchase and download from TT's website. They are a little out of date (last update is said to be April 2007) but should still be servicable.
In typical TT nanny fashion they make them difficult to find, but if you go into their Map sale, choose mobile phone under devices and then choose a phone which runs TTN6 (O2 XDA Exec as an example) up they pop.
When I checked this morning the Southern Africa Map for TTN6 was reduced to £24. Cheaper than starting afresh with TTN7 (which in any event TT makes very difficult to find) or the iGo. _________________ Peter
