Hi forum,
As many of you have noticed we are having some technical problems with the new versions of Telmap5 we distributed.
While we are looking into this, registration to the User Group will be temporarily closed.
Please note that during the week of Feb 14 - 20 our responsiveness will be slower due to our participation in Mobile World Congress.
Please check back with us.
thanks

So you make a change that impacts your user group and then vanish for a week on a jolly? As a manager in IT for both development and support teams I would be seriously embarrassed and annoyed for this to be the situation for my users
Maybe it's worth looking into your change management processes. |

Syborg, I feel your frustration, but they are providing this app free to us after all. Its not like we are paying for this.
Being this is beta testing, we kind of have to expect glitches and issues like this.
You can't expect them to travel back to the office to fix this just for us, the beta testers.
Now, if I was paying for this I would be really seriously upset, but I am not.
I just wish more companies would open up public beta programs like Telmap is doing here.
Despite this little glitch, I think its a great beta program they have here, and I appreciate what they are doing. |

Yes, I agree with all of that. I think the user group idea is a great concept and that the tool, when working, is the best out of the many I've tried on my Blackberry.
That doesn't take away from the fact that as a professional company there should be some thoughts on how to handle changes.
1) Warning when starting the app that changes need to be applied and an option to delay the delivery of them for 'n' uses of the application.
2) 'Last working configuration' to load by default in the event that application start up fails.
3) At the very least some notification (a post on the Forum or an email) to say that some changes are coming our way.
For me satnav software is about two things. It starting up and getting you where you need to go. That's all about trust and reliability, both of which have been impacted for me.
I'm very glad that this didn't happen when I was abroad depending on Telmap to get me back to the airport.
Last point - as mentioned by someone else on the forum. This is a beta not an alpha version. You expect that at beta version stability and reliability would be a little better than this. |
