Hi,

I recently bought a genuine TomTom bundle (TT3 and silver wired GPS) and genuine TomTom holder (incl the cable) for my Ipaq 5450.

When I first got it, I got no power to the GPS to the ebay seller I got it all from sent another lead which is working now but i'm having a strange problem and I wondered if anyone had seen it before.

When i'm driving round the power to the ipaq seems to keep flicking on and off - I can tell this because the charge light stops flashing and the screen goes dim because it's running on battery power again....then it'll go bright again as it comes back on. Sometimes it stays off for longer and I have to waggle the cable/ipaq connector to get it back on.

While it's off, the green light is on the cigar lighter plug and navigation still seems to work - it just seems to be the power side of the ipaq connection. However, plugging the real ipaq power lead in the same socket on the ipaq seems fine - however much I waggle it, it doesn't seem to go off. I've also not had a problem with the cradle which uses the same lead.

I have contacted the seller and suggested it might be the cable but he has come back and said he'll have to check with TomTom if faulty connections was covered by their warrenty before he can send a new cable. He also said he'd sold hundreds of these kits and not had anyone else with a similar problem.

Any ideas?

Anyone seen a similar thing?

Thanks

I have seen similiar when the cigarette lighter charger did not have enough "Fumpp!" to power both the iPAQ and the GPS receiver. You need a good 1A, preferably more, from it's 5V output. Most of the cheapo adapters only deliver 500 mA which is not enough to run and charge.

Hi,

Interesting - there is no way of measuring that though is there?

As far as I know it's a genuine TomTom lead but maybe it's the car not supplying enough current?

Thanks

I concur with Lutz here, that is a symptom of a charger outputting insufficient power. Is it the TomTom/Leadtek Silver GPS Mouse you have? I'd get in touch with the seller again or contact TomTom direct for a replacement.

It could also be either the GPS or iPAQ that have a fault and are drawing too much power but I'd suspect the charger first.

Hi,

Yes it's the Silver TomTom.

I'll contact the seller again but how would I go about getting it replaced by TomTom (in the UK)?

Thanks

Hi,

Just to let you know I did some more tests tonight - even with the gps unplugged and the brightness turned down to save a little power, it still flicks on and off...

Thanks

Interesting, I have 6 month old 307sw and constantly loose
power to my 2210 when using cigaratte socket as power supply.
I thought it was doggy connection, poor unit assembly or the like.
Never gove any thought to possible prob with power supply.

Cheers
