After looking at the various model and makes on offer and of course the price I thought this one would suit me...
Goals..
No wires hanging about
play the music I want from sd card
fit the car
good satnav
good support
Well,
Yes it is neat and no more wires.
Yes it plays my music by folder or all or all random from a 16GB SDHC card.
satnav - Teleatlas maps seem up to date with most road speeds correct.
However, and this is a big however. It seems to be one of those totally stupid devices that thinks single track roads are the fastest way to get from a to b.
I went from Seaford to the other side of Eastbourne to Homebase which is just off the A259.
It took me to seven sisters on the A259 and then left turn via Littleton via the long man and then right turn onto A27.
Many have died trying to turn out onto the A27 in the rush hour!
It wanted to go the same way on the way back...
I have had units that would tak you via Alfriston but never one this stupid.
I BTW have got Navan, RoadAngel, TomTom and Garmin units and none have ever suggested that route.
Support - well for this model none seems to exist.
So yes a nice neat and tidy unit, nice display (but no current speed), tells you off for going too fast but set as a mph value rather than percentage overspeed (0,3,6,10 If I recall).
Fitted in a Toyota Auris BTW.

|
|
JVC have just issued a firmware update to support POIBase http://www.poibase.com/en which looks like crap and other than some pay for speed cameras has nothing for the UK which of course are not free, not even a trial.
Also JVC have a new model out KW-NT3
If like the NT1 it will be great at all things but one - NAVIGATION.
The maps and routes it dreams up are the worse I have ever seen.
The units saving grace is that it plays all my favourite music from a 16GB SD card and requires no user input (other than tapping OK on the screen) for it to start playing my tunes again on power up.
iPhone only works with calls (no phone book or sms) but that is okay. |

It is now possible to buy new maps for this model which comes on a 4Gb SDCard.
It takes 30mins to install the upgrade where the data is copied to the units internal memory.
Are the maps and navigation better?
Maps have less errors and lots more known speeds (some wrong) but junctions are still in error.
Naviagation still takes you down stupid narrow lanes.
I still like my KW-NT1 and it meets all my needs except when it comes to being a sat-nav
Map upgrade BTW was £75.99 + Delivery
