|
I upgraded my Active10 to 1.4 with the platform upgrade SD card, but now I cannot display street names. There is no "Show road names" in the settings menus anymore.
Anybody else found this? bit disappointed if 1.4 has removed road names as this was one thing I looked for before I bought the unit.
I have an Active10 as opposed to an Active10-plus. _________________ planet nine

You're right it has gone!
I hadn't noticed before. The road names were there when I had 1.4 installed from the download.
Has this been missing on more recent devices, or is it just omitted from the SD card?
If the omission is intentional, I think we should have warned. It's not in the user guide anymore. |

I wondered about that too (but hadn't checked), when I saw the references to a 'base' map being loaded during this upgrade. Reckon they HAVE done an ACTIVE10+ job on us! _________________ David

What good is the street level mapping without road names?
The Active 10+ has post codes but not street level mapping.
Not even a AtoZ available where I live.
Not happy about this. Will complain to Satmap Monday. |

Are you sure? I have version 1.4 but I am still showing Platform 00.00.0 and street names are also missing from my machine. |

I'm pretty sure. I was on platform v 8xxxx.
I don't know if the option was in the settings menu, but the road names were present. Could it be that the pre update setting remained even if the ability to change it was gone? |

It claims to have postcodes; in reality it only appears to have some and the look up is hopelessly erratic as a result. Its not a useable feature. I did complain to Satmap but had no response. |

I used the sd for the upgrade and street names ARE still there after all. I zoomed right in on my Hertfordshire map and eventually got to a scale where they appeared. I thought that before they showed when zoomed out a bit more than now, but not too sure. Still, all (hopefully) is well. _________________ David

Much clearer now:
Street names ARE mentioned in the user guide :
Quote: | 5.15 Screen Data Options
(GPS Map → MAIN MENU → Settings → Screen Data Options)
In screen data options you have the ability to toggle on and off road names and set the unit to autoclear track data. The unit can also be set to automatically show you POI information when nearby.
Pressing the Default button restores the following settings:
Auto Show POI Information: Off
Show Titles on Maps: On
Auto Show POI Information |
Have they have been moved?
However, I had this option selected and they were still not visible. I reset the default settings (from the main settings screen) and they reappeared. I then opened the Sreen Data Options screen without changing anything and they are gone again.
Looks like another annoying bug. |

Obviously a bit of confusion! In the v1.3 manual, default for street names was 'OFF' with a note that they slowed down panning, which seems a good reason for that default, which presumably still holds. So maybe they still meant to say 'OFF' in v1.4 but the manual and the various setting options have got mixed up. _________________ David

Just found the 1.3 user guide. Roads and Titles were individually selectable. Now there is just the title option, which seems to include roads.
Not sure what the difference between roads and titles was. |

Even more confusing than I thought! In 4ndynorfolk's quote 5.15 of v1.4 you have, for TITLES Quote: | On: POIs, waypoints and route names
shown on maps | (so that's what they are!)
But although road names are mentioned at the start, they are NOT mentioned in the specific toggle options. Have they been forgotten? _________________ David

Have you reset using the default button in the settings menu (not the screen data options menu)? |

well I didn't want to reset my unit, even if it does just clear the settings pages. What does it reset? what does it not reset?
From memory, I changed quite a lot from the settings pages. Why would it be necessary to reset to settings defaults? Is this a work-around for another v1.4 bug? _________________ planet nine
