|
|
Just been to my local Halfords - (Sutton In Ashfield Notts)
They are clearing the left over TT 940s they have at £199,
They are the ones boxed with the £50 free fuel offer (Assume thats now expired).
Anyway staff said it was a national reduction, so if you fancy a cheap 940. Can't really beat £199 at the mo, Check out your local Halfords store. |

Oh my God, this is a steal....
At that price and the amount of technology you get, it's astounding...
Note, the 940's have a 3 month live trial as ooposed to 1 month for the x50 range.... |

Went to Halfords in Newcastle and they were selling them for £250 - asked the assistant and was told that only the display models were being sold for £199 all the rest were still £250.This probably means that each shop only has 1 for sale at this price.
Went to Gateshead and bought the display model there and was told that both the petrol offer and the Live trial were not available for this machine.
I still feel that I have got a bargain as everything is as new and I wasnt going to take up the Live option in the long term anyway |

I cannot see how they can disable the free Live services as shop demo models usually run a specific demo version to prevent some idiot deleting the maps from the devices so I doubt the original trial has been used, try it and see as you have nothing to lose - Mike |

I have just bought the display model from PC World in Tunbridge Wells for £199, had a bit of trouble finding one around though!
The box they gave me even had the proper TomTom leather case in there too, £30 on the website!
Now will just back it up and try to use the LMG and the free live trial, but a good deal whatever happens at that price, they were still selling the 540 for £229!

Well get it back for a couple of hours to do the following:
1/ A full backup using Windows Explorer
2/ Update the application using TomTom Home to the latest
3/ Use the Latest Map Gaurantee to download/ install BOTH the USA and Western Europe maps to the v840 version (latest)
These steps are vital as you only have 28 days in which to do it, if there is a problem you need to know about it now rather than post Christmas where all the offices will be shut for a week or so - Mike |

Picked the display model up from Derby. Had no problems with LMG but the 3mths trial of Live Services showed as having expired in August 09. Still a great bargain though. |

i had a drive round the 3 stores near us this morning but no look. They all had the 540 up for £179.99 but no 940's in sight.
I was told at the final store that the last 940 in the region (south) had gone yesterday.
Not to worry - Amazon have them up for £239.99 which isnt too bad either. |

The live trial starts as soon as you switch the SATNAV on.
The internal Voda SIM card gets activated automatically....
I have to admitt that I liked the HD traffic, however on quite a few occasions I found that I'd hit traffic when the Satnav did not display the delay... ok, granted it takes time for the Voda traffic servers to get the info and relay it back....
Anyway, my 3 month trial expired last month and well, i won't be renewing it for 7.99/mth |

I sent Santa to the workshop bribed Rudolph with a carrot and took the TomTom back.
The maps all updated - eventually - after about 5 hours and several disconnections to version 840.2562
Application is 8.371 did not seem to do any updates
Loaded Pocket gps speed cameras and voices (Did not bother with TomTom's)and all working well
Tried Live services but it said that the subscription had expired and I would need topay to get it livened up
Connected my mobile with bluetooth and tried a phone call - seems OK
One problem - after trying it in the car and navigating back to home the map kept going to a "screensaver" which is an advert for the properties of the TomTom - I could not see an obvious way to stop this happening.
I was using the Kate voice and did not like it as much as the female voice I used on my Ipaq I can't remember which voice it was!!!!
Generally I am quite happy with my new toy |

There is a file you will need to delete from the device as it was a demo model but I cannot for the life of me remember what its called as this issue has only poped up once or twice before, when I find a link to the information needed I will post it in the thread but the constant demo mode is a trait of a shop demo unit as it prevents idiots from going in to the store and deleting the maps on the device the file also advertises what the device is capable of to try and catch peoples attention - Mike |

Gando - Give tomtom a call about your live services, mine said that they had expired too, but a quick phone call and sending them the purchase receipt by email and they have honoured the 3 month trial.

Go into the scripts folder and delete anything found there. Voila! No more demos. _________________ David |
