SW TRANSPORT MINISTER David Campbell announced this week that the state will replace its obsolete ‘wet film’ cameras with 200 new digital cameras from December.
Rather than requiring the manual retrieval of physical film, the new cameras will allow images and information to be transferred instantly to a central database.
The announcement follows a proposal tabled by Labor minister Carl Scully in 2002.
Mr Campbell acknowledged this week that the rollout of the new cameras has been a long process.
The RTA will be responsible for the cameras, using some as both red-light and speed cameras.
Four locations will get permanent red-light and speed cameras, with another five of the dual-use cameras set to be rotated over 25 known trouble spots across the state.
The first of the new cameras will go into operation on December 18 . The NSW Government has not yet revealed the locations of the new cameras.
So how are you going to know when the cameras are rotated, so you going to need to make all of these 25 knowns areas dual use cameras if not already are within the red/speed cameras database? |

That's what we do with UK mobile sites. Perhaps we will consider them to be mobile, but without more details of locations, it's hard to say. No doubt one of the 'Big Boys' will pop up with their thoughts later |

depends what they mean by rotated? surely it would be easier for them to have the posts installed at all the sites then just move the innards around? otherwise they will need to dig up roads/pavements, set up all the wiring for 'sending pictures to a central database' etc.
in the uk a lot of speed cameras are empty but the local safety camera partnership will move the active innards around at random intervals.
certianly worth keeping an eye on it all though!

Assuming the same setup what you have in the UK as they will move the active innards around at random intervals. |
