|
|
I have a TomTom 520 with Navcore 8.351 and Maps v835.2419. I have connected the TomTom to home and updated it with the QuickGPS Fix, however I am having to do this update regurlarly whenever I connect my TomTom to Home. Does the QuickGPS Fix not permanently save to the TomTom? Or do I have to install it whenever I want to use the TomTom?
Thankyou in advance for any help.

The qGPS download is only vaild for a period of (I think) 7 days so you need to update it often to stay current if you bother using the qGPS. I find it makes no difference as long as you use the device on a regular basis it gets this information from the GPS sats anyway and avoids connecting the device to the TT Home application which causes more problems than it fixes - Mike |

Many thanks for the reply Mike. That's answered my question. I only use the TomTom now and again, so it's not getting updated that often.
Thanks very much.

The quick GPS fix is not really needed at all.
It is supposed to be a TomTom enhancement that allows your device to predict the position of the satellites it uses for positioning over the next few days. TT say this will reduce the time taken to get a GPS fix each time you turn on the 520 as it should already know where the satellites are.
From this explanation you can see that the information will always be changing so TT issue very regular update probably each day or perhaps even more, this is why there is always a new download every time you connect your 520.
There are some regulars on this forum who prefer not to download the fixes at all, as they don't seem to improve the speed of getting a fix and may even sometimes make things worse. |

I would have thought the satellites used for GPS would have been geostationary so would appear to be in the same position or are they not?

GPS Sats are constantly moving in orbit, they are not geo stationary at all, the qGPS file provides the receiver with updated orbit profiles and corrections a good bed time read on how it all works is This article that Darren wrote a while back - Mike |
