|
|
Hi Guys
Sorry if this has been discused before, I did do a search but found nothing listed.
A number of camera site around were I live (Kent) have had a sign added saying they now detect Mobile Phones and No seat belts.
If true how do they do it.
Or are they just photographing every car passing the camera then paying someone in Mumbai to view every photo taken one at a time in the hope they spot someone on the phone or without their seat belt on.
Or is it just Bull.
Thanks |

According to an article I saw on TV the other day, it does not apply to fixed cams, only mobile cams. Because the operator can see you on the phone or no seatbelt in real time, they can take a picture of you as evidence, even if you are not speeding. So it's not the camera that detects the misdemenour, it's the operator, who then takes your picture doing it. |

This stems from a Kent SCP news item.
They will now be using speedcam vans to target other driving offences including drivers/passengers not wearing seatbelts and drivers using mobile phones, see the original news item here. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi
Could this be a good thing?
There does seem to be an enormous number of people driving around with mobile phones stuck to their ears or no seatbelts on.
I have also heard that these cameras can do insurance / reg plate checks too.
Isn't this what a "safety" camera should be doing? |

Absolutely, wholly support such moves and it's one area where most drivers would be fully supportive I think.
No excuse for using a phone without handsfree nor driving without a safety belt. _________________ Darren Griffin |

No, that's not speed (safety) cams, but Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. Different animal, and rightly so, the sites are not in the PGPSW database. |

I don't know if anybody else has noticed but, I was driving a lorry round SE london on Tuesday and the majority of people using mobile phones were driving £60k plus cars or white vans! |
