|
|
I bought Nuvi 255wt in July this year. It has European maps on it ver NT 2010.10.
There has been a major bypass around Swindon near where I live which was finished earlier this year which doesn't show up on the satnav. In fact I've had to turn off the speed limit bit on it as it keeps on thinking that the speed limit is 40mph when it is actually 70. The Navtek website shows the new bypass.
My free 60day map update is coming to an end, and I've still got an out of date map. When is the next update due? It looks like I'm going to be stuck with an out of date map unless I pay to have it updated. If I did pay for the lifetime upgrade, it should update every three months or so, but the last update was in April. Come on Garmin, pull your finger out! |

I just got my 255W on September 10th noticed the maps were from April and assumed when I went to Garmin site my unit would be updated. Just read others complaining about this. As I have now registered the unit with Garmin will I be emailed "if" a new map upgrade is available within the 60 days or do I have to keep checking by connecting my unit to the site? |

I've been waiting for Garmin to update the Swindon bypass also. Like you say when you drive on the Swindon road the satnav keeps saying it's 40 when it is 70. In fact there are a lot of places in Swindon that when you get to, on the satnav it looks like your driving on space _________________ Garmin Nuvi 3790T Firmware 4.30

It is NOT WHEN you first register it but when you firt switch the unit ON for the first time.
On first switch on the information is stored on unit & when you synch with computer / garmin that information is transmitted to verify your validity period.
Garmin should email you but do not bank on it.
I did not see the first email to me but i did get a reminder just before it expired which i did get. |

Have you seen the offer of Garmin France?
20 euro for map "update a vie"? In other countries
it goes for 119 euro.
best regards |

Even though Garmin haven't updated the maps for a while, they are still more up to date than the TomTom ones which got updated a couple of weeks ago.

If you read the what the advert says ref 20 euro for updates for life in France, you will notice that it is a promotion offer if you buy one of the GPS systems that they offer, and you also have to apply for the offer.
I live in France and when I require a map update I would have to pay 119 euro's the same as everybody else if I require the lifetime update. so I am afraid that it is the same for us as well. _________________ Takara GP56 igo primo 1.1

According to a generally reliable poster at another forum, the EU update should be available within just a few days. In addition, another should be offered before the end of the year. According to the same post, Garmin NA users will need to wait until January for their next map update. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |

I suppose within a week we'll know how reliable the poster I mentioned is. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |

In effect the Garmin promise of free updates for 3 months from switching your Garmin is worthless. Its nearly 7 months since their last update. Why don`t they just promise you one free update after you purchase your unit when ever it occurs. Is it a marketing ploy to save them money? Do they know that updates don`t happen very often so there is no cost to them. |

It is not that updates don't happen very often, more GARMIN UPDATES don't happen very often
Navteq released the map data for this updates ages ago - Navigon users are already running it (and have been for quite a while)
So it is either shear incompetence on Garmins behalf, or will full misleading promises
Either way it stinks _________________ TomTom Go Live 6100, 600
