|
|
Well I took the plunge and purchased Copilot 8 to replace copilot 7 on my Asus 695. I removed Copilot 7 as per instructions on ALK website.
Downloaded Copilot 8 UK installed onto 2gig card and unzipped into 2 folders 2775 and copilot and loaded into the root of the sd card.
I then popped the sd card into my PDA and copilot 8 said it had installed correctly. Tried to start copilot 8 but it hangs on the splash screen start up and then it stops.
I have tried uninstalling -reinstalling etc but no good.
I have contacted ALK and am awaiting their reply.
In the meantime I have uninstalled Copilot 8 and reinstalled copilot 7 which installed without a problem.
ALK website states that the asus 695 is compatable.
Has anyone else had problems installing copilot 8 onto a windows pda? |

Yes, I removed CoPilot Live 7 and installed version 8 (twice).
I initially installed to sd but seeing that it only used 17mb of program memory, I removed and re-installed to main memory.
All OK with no problems.
You could try deleting windows,L.ICP8.DAT & CoPilot,save,PK.TXT prior to re-installing |

Thanks, I'll try later on when I get home. I tried to install to main memory and to the sd card and each time copilot says it installed correctly but hanged on start up of splash screen. I didnt remove L.ICP8.DAT & CoPilot, save,PK.TXT files though !! |

Well tried to install CP8 again tonight and guess what, it would install correctly but the copilot icon would not show until I did a hard reset.
I then clicked on the CP8 icon and the splash screen started and then the program quit. Tried all ways to install but no joy. Removed all cp8 files and then reinstalled CP7 which installed correctly with the CP7 icon showing in the menu without having to reset the pda. CP7 runs without any issues.
In the cp7 2577 folder there are files for wm6, but in CP8 2577 folder there is not a wm6 file.
Iwonder if there are files missing from the CP8 2577 folder which is preventing installation properly on my Asus 695?
Still waiting for a reply from ALK
A bit disappointed user |

I had to completely remove all CP7 files from my pda memory and card before it would load correctly. _________________ Ste

hi,
Just talked to alk support who informed me that others have had issues with installation. He said it would now be looked at by technical support and would come back to me.
It seems a number of people cannot get past the splash screen although it installed correctly.
at the moment running CP7 perfectly |

I had problems installing CP8 on my Ipaq 214. I followed the instructions and deleted CP7, reformated the SD card but as the instructions only suggested you may have to do a hard reset I didn't do it and had problems. After doing a hard reset it worked fine. |

The cp8 installation problems seem to be only affecting the Aus 696. I checked the Aus forums and a number of people are having the problem of hangup at the splash screen. Copilot website says the Asus 696 is compatible.
I wonder if they actually checked or is a wm 5 or wm 6 problem? |

hi
Just posted a question about this somewhere else, sorry.
have you found a way to get this to work? i am having the hanging-on-splash-screen problem on an XDA. It did work the first time, but now nothing.
any ideas of things to check? Is deleting the files mentioned above OK to do?
thanks

Hi,
No ALK support marked the support email as solved without contacting me. I sent a email asking them how is the problem solved when I still cannot use Coplot 8 and they said they would pass the problem onto technical support.
I notice in the Asus 696 forums a number of people have the same problem.
I also have problems with Copilot Central not seeing my PDA, not being able to log into my account etc. I have reverted back to Copilot 7 which runs perfectly.
At the moment I am a bit unhappy about the way the problems are being handled by ALK |

Recieved reply from ALK who said the issue was not closed and it has been sent to technical support so watch this space.
If yo upgraded to CP8 and you are unable to run it then surely ALK should offer you a refund and reset your CP7 keys until CP8 is able to run on your device. |

Finally telephoned ALK support after emails remained ananswered.
Helpful guy said that CP8 is not compatable with my Asus 696 and gave me a refund.
The compatability webpage is now changed to reflect that.
So no Copilot 8 until I spash out on new hardware. |
