Problem with TT Home Not Detecting Device

I am having a problem getting TT Home to detect my TT Go 930. This problem has started a couple of weeks ago and TT support have so far been unable to resolve the issue, and they are inherently slow, typically two days between replies.
What is happening:
When I plug my 930 into my PC, TT Home starts but shows no device detected. I have reset my 930, uninstalled home 2.6, installed 2.7 and did everything else support has told me to.
I installed TT home 2.7 onto a laptop and everything works OK.

What I have noticed is that when I plug the TT in to the laptop, it shows up as two External Drives (E,F). When I select the icon in the system tray to safely remove hardware it displays Safely remove USB Mass Storage Device - Drives (E:, F Smile

When I plug the TT back in to the problem pc, only one device shows. Now when I select the icon in the system tray to safely remove hardware it displays Safely remove USB Mass Storage Device - Drive (F Smile

From what I remember, my pc also used to show two drives when I plugged my 930 in. So seems to be an issue with the USB's on my pc.

Note, I do not have a memory card in the TT, and my OS is Windows XP Pro with SP2.

Any help to fix this would be appreciated.

Have you added a card reader to the PC recently? and how many main drive letters have you got when you view the computer via Windows Explorer? - I have experianced issues with drive letter allocation when the number of drive letters gets quite large - Mike

No card reader installed. The following drives are displayed:
A: Floppy Drive
C: HDD 1
D: HDD2
E: DVD

These are physically installed so no probs there.

What does Home do if/ when you insert a memory card to the device?

Windows will see the internal flash memory and the card slot as two seperate drive letters, Home might be a little more smart and discard the storage card slot unless there is a memory card inserted.

Is this the first ever example where Home is actually behaving in a smarter way than MicroSoft? - If so its time to go to bed as this very thought will give me a headache - Mike

Strange, it works with a memory card installed. I remove the memory card and it stops working.
I never had a problem before when connecting without a memory card installed, and it works OK on the laptop without a memory card.

What does your device show up as in My Computer when you connect it?

I reinstalled everything on mine recently and noticed Home wasn't recognising it. When I checked in My Computer, it was now called 'removable drive', not 'TomTom'. I just opened up the Properties dialogue in my computer and renamed it 'TomTom' again, which solved the problem for me. If your memory card has TomTom in the name, this may explain why it works with it inserted.

Mac ands Linux only show mounted disks (i.e. disk drives that exist) and so an empty card reader or an empty slot in a TomTom would not appear.

Hi Mike,
There is a nlank plastic thingy in the TT slot although this does have brass contacts.
The TT has bee recognised by Home for almost a year now with this installed and only recently stopped being recognised. It is being recognised on the laptop with this in the slot.

With Properties selected, shown as Drive F, Capacity 4 GB, of which 3.6 GB is used.

Try the other drive letter associated with your device or you have got the maps loaded to the SD card as 3,6GB sounds about right for the NA and WE maps - Mike

It is definately looking at the 930 internal memory as it is shown as a 4 GB drive with 376 MB free, the drive letter is F:
When I try with an empty 4 GB memory card it does show the empty card as drive B with 4 GB free.
TT home gives me the option to select which memory to use, either internal memory or memory card when I plug the TT in sith a card in the slot.

Problem now solved. I had a program called USB Safely Remove running. Once I uninstalled this, TT and Home are now talking to each other.
